So much for Bring me the poor people, the crippled, the blind, and the lame

Leviticus 21:17-23

17 ?Speak to Aaron, saying: ?No man of your descendants in succeeding generations, who has any defect, may approach to offer the bread of his God.
18 For any man who has a defect shall not approach: a man blind or lame, who has a marred face or any limb too long,
19 a man who has a broken foot or broken hand,
20 or is a hunchback or a dwarf, or a man who has a defect in his eye, or eczema or scab, or is a eunuch.
21 No man of the descendants of Aaron the priest, who has a defect, shall come near to offer the offerings made by fire to the LORD. He has a defect; he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God.
22 He may eat the bread of his God, both the most holy and the holy;
23 only he shall not go near the veil or approach the altar, because he has a defect, lest he profane My sanctuaries; for I the LORD sanctify them.??

Ummmm.....nice try, but this specifically related to serving in the priesthood and was not addressing those in the "congregation." With that being said, as unfortunate as it may be, I understand the churches position.

I have two autistic sons and I bring them to church on most Sundays. But I wouldn't dream of allowing them into the "big service". They go to children's classrooms with the other kids that are reasonably close to their age. My older son is more severe and as a result he needs to have at least one person watching him at all times. In other words, the classroom needs at least two adults: one for teaching the group and another just to watch my son. The younger one is only 3 and there is still a chance he will grow out of it. Also, he is not as severe as the older one. Suffice to say, neither of them is as big and as disruptive as the child in this story. But I still think they would be too much of a distraction if I allowed them to come into the main service. In my opinion, the church is well within its rights and indeed probably obligated to do something to restrain the child.

Hmm, methinks I need to be even more overt in my sarcasm going forward.

I'll bet that the priest would be willing to minister to the kid in a forum more appropriate to his needs.

The video link said exactly that. The parish priest and another church leader met with the family to voice their concerns & offered to have services at the family's home or provide a video link of Sunday services, but the family refused both offers.

The video report also says the boy is now 6-2 and 235 lbs! @ 13 years old, and his behavior has gotten progressively worse since last Summer.

Again, I don't see where this Priest was unreasonable.

P.S.

Thanks to those with personal experience for sharing your stories. I'm sure the challenges of parents in a situation such as this are more than many of us are aware.

...not your fault Muck. Most people are running with some version of Windows as their OS. Since Windows95, all versions of Windows use[sarcasm]sarcasm.dll[/sarcasm] as their sarcasm handler. While sufficient for most message boards, it often bogs down on BP; and it does not properly parse OT references.

Cool. I rarely watch embedded news vids so I missed that.

What's his 40 & bench? [/zook]

Thanks to those with personal experience for sharing your stories.

Seconded!!

How odd....the Pope speaks very highly of you.:tongue2:

Yeah I kinda feel bad about that

Seriously though, if you are gonna be catholic, ya might as well just not bother being religious. It's the poor man's religion. It's for people who cant stay religious. When u get bored with following the rules, u just stop, then confess and u are cool.

Ok being that this has nothing to do with the topic of the thread, I will shut up now. Just needed to vent

The whole WWJD is bullshit. A young man in his condition would have been locked in a 10 x 10 stone cell with about 100 other people and a goat or stoned to death for being possesed. You cannot look at history with todays values. Apples and oranges.

I really apreciate the posts by the guys that have kids that are affected. Their POV carries a ton of weight obviously. Thanks for the insights. I can see how your whole reality would become distored and what is normal skued.
