Slaten comments - racist?

Looking at percentage of votes is only part of it. From this link, the turnout for black voters was also the higher in 2008 than any previous year. So no only was the % that voted for Obama higher, but the % that decided it was worth voting for.

I started to touch on that at the end of my post but you are right that it deserves more than a footnote mention.

As a guy so liberal that he both held back money from Obama and refused to vote for him because I consider him a Wall Street pandering asswipe, I have no problem whatsoever discussing demographic voting patterns even if it veers off into somewhat uncomfortable and politically incorrect territory. I've seen plenty of intelligent analysis and debate on the subject over the last two weeks.

Slaten didn't engage in anything remotely resembling a rationale discussion of the issue. He threw gasoline on the fire and called blacks "bigots" because they voted in a way he didn't like. Guess what when one of your employers is a prominent black bigot, chances are that'll get you whacked.

And giving that guy's cell phone to the Paterno Cult to engage in what I'm sure have been more than a few death threats is not freedom speech.

This is not a first amendment thing. I'm out of here.

Black voters overwhelmingly vote Democrat. This is true although the numbers that have been quoted so far are off a bit...

Obama (12) 93%, Obama (08) 95%, Kerry 88%, Gore 90%, Clinton (96) 84%, Clinton (92) 83%, Dukakis 89%, Mondale 91%, Carter (80) 83%, Carter (76) 83%

It's also fair to say that President Obama received a larger percentage of the black vote than is typical for Democrat candidates.

Castigating black voters for being more likely to vote for a black candidate is not racist. Tom Joyner admitted he voted for President Obama because of race. Samuel L Jackson stated he voted for President Obama because of race. Snoop Dogg claims his #1 reason for voting for Obama was race.

When Stacey Dash (who is black) came out in support of Romney the reaction from blacks was overwhelmingly negative. She was called a house ni**er & a traitor.

I understand that those who automatically cry 'racist!' at the heretics who support someone other than the President don't actually want to be reminded that there a strong argument that non-white voters are more likely to vote based on the color of a candidate's skin but nevertheless it is there.

BTW in the 2008 Democratic primaries Hillary Clinton received 15% of the black vote. 85% voted for Barack Obama. Those racist whites voted 56 to 44 in favor Hillary Clinton.

So far we haven't touched on the raw number of black voters in 08 & 12. What percentage of black voters typically made it to the booths in previous Presidential elections compared to the most recent two? If it was significantly higher in 08 (and most folks agree that it was) then what exactly was different in that election that brought them out in greater numbers?

mmmm...Stacey Dash.....

:biggrin:uAs a member of an all black Baptist church.. saying black people
Voted for Obama because of skin color is racial in nature- and
Extraordinarily accurate. I flat out asked a couple deacons why
They were voting for him... All 3 (joking, but not joking) said "gotta
Vote for the brother".

So while black people overwhelmingly vote democrat. The
Sentiment is true.

People just don't like hearing the truth.

Edit. Kind of how rich white people vote republican..:biggrin:. (Joke)

It's only natural, minorities want to see themselves represented. If there was a Hispanic candidate, guess who would get 95% of the Hispanic vote.... I seriously doubt that blacks would be as enthusiastic about voting for a black republican candidate though.

It's funny to see white people try and pretend as if whites/blacks are on a level playing field vis-a-vis race preferences.

Whites have seen people that look like them in the Presidency since.... forever. Same with most other public offices. Calling blacks "bigoted" for voting for Obama to be President isn't just racist; it's [censored]ing inaccurate. They voted "FOR" the black guy. They didn't vote "AGAINST" the white guy.

On the flip side, whites have been bigoted against blacks for [censored]ing centuries. The fact that 40% of them could accept a black President is pretty [censored]ing amazing considering that history.

Voted "for" someone because of the color of their skin is just as racist as voting against someone.

The fact that 40% of whites can accept a black president shows there is no racism there.

Stupid. Blacks identify with being black more than whites do because whites historically associated them that way. If you want to blame someone for blacks circling the wagon around their candidates, look at American history.

40% of whites voting for Obama doesn't prove that the other 60% didn't allow race to be a factor. Look at West Virginia. In the Democratic primary, a prison inmate won 41% of the primary vote against Obama. And he lost to Romney in a landslide while at the same time Manchin wins Senatorial re-election easily.

EDIT: I honestly think it's a fucking joke we're even having this conversation. Blind people would be more inclined to vote for a blind candidate. Gays would be more inclined to vote for a gay candidate. Jewish people would be more inclined to vote for a Jewish candidate. And there isn't a damn thing wrong with that.

Do you think Obama's first term was worthy of winning 96% of the African American vote? 96%.
