One place I did pick up a pass for is Pean N Peak in western NY. Sounds promising, at least nicer than either Mad River Mountain or Snow trails.
Welcome to Peek'n Peak • Western New York's Premier Family Resort

One thing we do every year is to ski on Superbowl Sunday. Usually a decent day for it, and because of the Superbowl parties, the slopes aren't that crowded.

Peek n Peak is a ghost town on Superbowl Sunday. Like you, I'm almost always skiing on SBS. Of course, the Raiders always suck so there's no need to watch 8 hours of pregame.

Has anyone here watched the snowboard movie "That's It, That's All"? I got it last year on BluRay and have watched it once a week since. Even if you're not a snowboarder, this film is just unreal, even my mother will sit there and watch it. The whole thing is done in HD and they spent a ton on the cinematography. It's got a pretty legit soundtrack too, it's not real intense like in the first video, more mellow w/ MGMT type stuff. Definitely worth a watch.

Any Left Coasters out there that ski Tahoe? Some of the OCers probably trek up 395 to Mammoth, but any Bay Areans go up the hill? Try to get up there once a year or so, and prefer Alpine Meadows. Nicer people, and not as uppity as Squaw, although fewer hard runs. Lot of vertical fall, and more mid-range runs. Daughter broke her arm skiing the backside, and basketball coach wasn't real pleased with us. So this year we're not going to spend a week there. Too far (6 hours driving) to go for a week end, so envy y'all that get to the slopes. Snow is pretty wet here, as opposed to the powder that you get in Utah, and ? in the east. When get up there during spring break, get alot of corn snow that is slush by noon.

Utah's got alot of powder, on the other side of the mountains and dryer. You can ski four pretty good runs in the Park City, Utah area, and if you've got four whole days, very doable. Please let me know what you thought about that area. Flyable from most airports in Cali, and rent a car for an hour drive to the resorts. Remember to keep your tips up or you'll get buried pretty quick.....enjoy....

Just got back from Holiday Valley in New York.

Went up on Dec. 30th and it was their least amount of snow in over 20 years. Temps. in the low 40's and grass and mud showing on MANY slopes.

Got 6 inches of snow last night and great skiing this morning and afternoon before coming home today.

I believe they have over 60 runs.

Highly recommend it for those of you in Ohio or the Northeast.

Just booked 4 days in Utah at Snowbird. Will probably hit up Alta on day 2 and see which I like better for the rest of the week. It'll be my first trip out west and will probably kick my ass.

Alta>Snowbird. I would buy a combo pass so you can go where ever conditions are best. But more times than not its Alta. Although it is definately worth your time to explore snowbird.

Brighton was a good change up from these two if you get bored, which you won't.

Ulta/Snowbird is an otherworldly experience on a powder day!
Snow so fine and light and powdery it chokes you!
You absolutely must have "powder cords" so you don't lose your skis in a fall! I saw a guy fall and he only found his skis after my wife skied over them 30ft down the mountain! :yow1:
I like Alta better because there are fewer people and it is more old school and less the high end/ be seen in your Bogner ski outfit crowd.
My favorite Utah ski area is Solitude in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

The boys and I finally made it out last evening to the local hill, Boston Mills. They only had a few runs open, but it was probably the best time we have had skiing there. The snow guns were going so they could build up more of base since it was finally cold enough to make some snow. Also, it was really coming down for about an hour there. I think there was over two inches of fresh snow just during that hour. It was coming down so hard we could barely see, but it cleared out most of the people and the knuckle-draggers all disappeared. I am optimistic I will still be able to out-ski my older son at the end of the season, but I am going to have to step up my game as he is advancing too fast.

We are planning on making a trek or two up to Holiday Valley this year. They are suffering from the lack of snow as everyone else east of the Rockies. Glad to hear they are getting some snow now. The hope is to take the whole family out west to Alta in a couple of winters. My wife wants to shop while we hit the slopes.

Bring on the snow!!!

Don't tell her but I don't think there is much shopping around Alta. Snowbird does have a spa.

I am going to try to get back to Big Sky or Jackson Hole this spring. Would also like to pick up a new set of skis if I make the trip.
