Skeete's Arrest & (sort of) Related Topics

this whole skeete situation has really opened my eyes as to how divided we are as a society. if we are going to make any progress, this gap needs to be bridged, but all this ridiculous name-calling prevents this from happening.

Just gotta ask - which gap is it you are trying to close?

i don't think the $70 was a finder's fee, from the story i heard skeete didn't profit at all
If that's the case, he is even more of an idiot than I thought.

Look, I've gotta agree with Alan on this one. Selling (whether he was a middle man or not) grass is illegal. It's that simple. An intelligent guy like Skeete should know that when you put on that uniform, you have a lot more responsibility than the average student at OSU. Narcs in the dorms, entrapment, not hurting anybody,... whatever. He did something illegal.

This goes way beyond an NCAA infraction, or even stealing or underage drinking. The guy was arranging/dealing drugs. I say he ruined his own life. Whatever happened to personal responsibility?

the problem with the war on drugs is that it will never be won.
We'll also never stop drunk driving, robbery, murder, and etc. Perhaps we should just do away with all laws and live in anarchy.

Kids in the dorms that choose to obey the law and not partake in pot are not being threatened in any way shape or form by the kids that choose to break the law and get high.
So you're telling us that these kids smoking pot in the dorms never drive anywhere while impaired. They don't ever get the late night munchies and drive to maybe Taco Bell or Hound Dogs. I find that very hard to believe.

buckeyetrail.....

sorry to come off strong, it was a frustrating night.....i dont know enough about pot to have an opinion of its merits....but, there is zero question that skeete and all athletes should avoid it at all costs....everything about it....

and next time i see doss i'll ask him.....if true, i know some people that will be very dissapointed in him....

if you live in a dorm on campus, and you have a car, the only place where you can park it is way over on west campus. getting to your car is a half-hour ordeal, sometimes longer. you have to walk to the bus stop, wait for the bus, then sit there as the bus sloooooooowly meanders its way through campus, before eventually stopping at the west campus parking lot, which is far away from everything.

conversely, there are many restaurants located within a five minute walk from the dorms. when these kids get the munchies, they simply walk to the taco bell.

kids in the osu dorms rarely drive anywhere, unless it is to go home or to visit friends at a different college for the weekend.

if you drink alcohol, it's possible that you might drive drunk. does this mean that drinking alcohol should be illegal? no, because simply consuming it is one thing, and engaging in dangerous behavior under the influence of it is another. if skeete was driving around high and got caught, i would have no sympathy for him whatsoever. hell, even if he got caught simply with possession, i wouldn't have any sympathy, because while i don't agree with the law, i agree that you have to be prepared for the consequences. but when you get duped into doing something that the overwhelming majority of students would've done, even the non-smoking ones...i think it's unfairly harsh.

i also don't think that doss will really care if people are "dissapointed" in him. he worked hard and gave his soul to the Buckeyes. if he chose to occasionally partake in an activity which didn't harm anyone else, who are these others that can cast their moral indignation upon him? he also might not even admit to it, as he's probably well aware of the trouble that could land him in.

i agree that athletes only have themselves to blame if they are caught using it, and should be prepared to deal with the consequences, even though i disagree with the law. however, you can't expect athletes to be totally isolated from it....it is such a common thing in college that unless you hole yourself up in a wall, you will be around it and you will know people that use and/or sell. Even if you are a good person that stays totally clean, you will be around it, and you can be just as easily duped as Skeete was.

buckeyetrail....i was thinking about some of what you are saying while reading Romans this morning....then i came upon Romans 1:22 "Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools."

so i made a few phone calls and it appears my views on marijuana are outdated. most especially in regards to its prevelance of use among college age kids....i was shocked.

i still maintain that an athlete should never touch the stuff, but evidently it is literally eveywhere now, not like when i was in college.....i'd even say it is about the equivalent of what an under 21 student drinking a beer was back in my day....

you have helped to enlighten me about an important aspect of society that i was unfortunately out of the loop on....
