SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

The best part of it is that his return to UM is such a big deal, and his histrionics so well documented this summer, there will be dedicated Harbaugh-cams to catch every second of it.

Michigan fans lost their [Mark May] over the last coach not wearing headphones and clapping too much.

Can't wait to see how this season goes down for Harbaugh. Even if he wins, he'll piss off enough AA beat writers to provide us an endless supply of fresh material.
I can't wait for the meltdown. Need to give it about 3 years. If he loses, the fans will turn on him, the administration will be sick of him and it will be epic. If he wins, the fans will love him, the administration will be dying to get rid of him, and I think it may be more epic. A little success by year 3 might actually make the meltdown more epic. Either way.....

I think the best case scenario is that he makes steady progress the next two years and right before (or during) the breakthough season 3 that everybody is expecting he does something so monumentally crazy and p.r. disastrous that the administration has to fire him setting off a vicious civil war between the university and the fanbase.

Maybe @NFBuck would be the best to answer this, but does anyone think hairball might spurrier his qbs this year? Or will he stick with whichever asshole he picks at the beginning.
Or he could Brian Kelly them by crushing their confidence and spirit with his obsessive micromanagement of their every move.

Hell, Kelly manages to destroy talented QBs that way and Harbaugh's aren't even talented.

This is probably more accurate.

Everyone knew Spurrier liked to play musical chairs with the QB position, even the QBs themselves. He'd pull and place them at whim, without redfacing them on their way off the field like Kelly.

Brian Kelly also loses assistant coaches like socks in a dryer, as they make lateral moves just to get away from him.

Given his tenure in SF, I'd tend to think he picks one guy and sticks with him, no rotating. However, if the starter isn't performing, and there's a guy he thinks can do better, he won't hesitate to make the switch. His last two years in SF were a bit odd, though, as he and OC Greg Roman tried to pound a square peg into a round hole by making Kaepernick a pocker-passer. Rudock seems to be a lot like Alex Smith, which fits The Harbraugh™ style. But, their OL and WRs are a total mystery right now. The Harbraugh™'s preferred style necessitates strong OL play, more so even than most offenses as it relies on a ground and pound style and a QB having time to make his reads. He did not have that for part of 2013 and all of last year, and by mid-season last year, his offense was a clown show.

I have zero read on how they'll do this year. Two years ago, if you told me that scUM would have The Harbraugh™ on their sideline, I'd say to expect a swift and near total turnaround. But, he lost a lot of shine in my eyes that last 1-2 years in SF. In fact, I thought he did a pretty shit job last year. Part of that may have been that he already had one foot out the door, but there's no way of knowing for sure. Another factor is that in all reality, outside of upsetting USC, he didn't do too much at Stanford until he got a once-in-a-generation talent at QB. scUM most certainly does not have that right now. Their D should be solid, but they have serious concerns at CB and not much DL depth. While the OL has underperformed at a comedic level for a couple of years, most of those kids were pretty well regarded recruits, so chances are a few of them actually can play if coached up instead of simply clapped at. I think they have a solid stable of RBs. The WRs are an unknown, but they have a pretty good TE. If I had to guess right now, gun to my head, I'd guess 8-4 if Rudock can play like he did at Iowa and the OL is at least solid. Of course, they could go right off the rails if a few of those things don't come together and go 5-7 again. I really have no idea.

About the time the team transitions from "this is a really intense, focused guy who knows what he's doing" to "this guy is an insane asshole that I can't stand being around."

From a team perspective, that transition might be masked somewhat in college thanks to the players inexplicably choosing to be around him for four to five years at the start.

Pretty much. I still think he'll alienates enough people and burns enough bridges that he bolts back to the NFL after 3-4 years.

The logical person doesn't expect 11-1 in Jimmy's first season, but you know they have hope now. And we're talking about scUM fans so "logic" will be in short supply.

Oh how I want to see Utah win his first game. The sensible person will understand it's just the beginning, but the rest will lose their minds.

At both Stanford and San Francisco, The Harbaugh lucked into and rode a QB phenomenon. At Stanford, it was a once in a decade talent in Luck. At SF, it was the QB who helped develop and run the pistol at the college level right as it was becoming a thing in the NFL and defenses were scrambling to catch up. Both were very unique situations, and neither are present at Michigan.

The circumstances won't matter if he can convince a stud QB to go there.
