WVU is a pathetic excuse for a major research institution.

The Big 10 isn't just about football or sports for that matter.

Agreed. Missouri would be a better choice with everything taken into account. Not sure if that would solve a football problem.

Maybe a Southern team :shake:

Bingo! Remember that when ND was extended an invite to join the Big Ten, the vote to extend an invitation was relatively close due to the fact that ND has a pathetic graduate school and some Big Ten university presidents didn't want that to affect the overall academic strength of the Big Ten.

Missouri has consistently been mentioned as the most logical choice.

I think we need to have a conference championship game ....

At the risk of opening up this can of worms for the umpteenth time, why? This year was the perfect example of why not to have a conference title game. We were the only undefeated team in the conference and had just beaten the team we would have ended up playing in the title game. Seeing as we--as the #1 "seed"--would have home field advantage, we would have had to played Michigan the follow week on the very same field we just beat them. Now how stupid is that?

I don't think Syracuse, WVU, or Pitt would fit the Big Ten profile academically. Missouri, Iowa State, or any realistic choice from the Big 12 wouldn't bring enough to the conference to make worth it. A school from ACC, SEC, and PAC 10 conferences would be a pipe dream. Those conferences look very stable. There's no mid-major program out there. I just don't see a good candidate out there that's worth bringing it. Big Ten schedule shouldn't have been an issue.

The only way to avoid what Mili is saying is to put TOSU and scUM in the same division of the conference which would basically render "The Game" as bullshit. You could never convince me that a Conference Championship Game is a good idea. Period.

Conference Championships are played on neutral sites though...

UF, UT and UGA are all in the same division in the SEC. They still have strong rivalry games.

If it meant going foreward with a playoff I'd vote for a 12th team/CCG in a heartbeat. If its not related to a playoff then there is no need.

Using this year as an example, we beat Michigan to win our division, then the following week we travel to the Metrodome to play Wisconsin? Not a real attractive scenario.

Like surviving UF's schedule and being rewarded with a trip to Atlanta to play Arkansas? Its not real attractive but others already do it.

How does having playoff necessitate a conference title game when not having a playoff doesn't? Ever hear of the phrase "tie-breaker"?

Lets say they decided on the 6 BCS conference champs plus 2 at large and to avoid special treatment for the Domers they had to join the B10.

All hypothetical, just making the point that I wouldn't be opposed to a CCG if we got a true playoff in return.

If they do the playoff they need to go to 16 teams like every other division...and before you say that's too many, your 8-team scenario would've left out the most underrated and most deserving non-BCS team, Boise State, which was #9 before the bowls...
