Should semipro/college players be paid, or allowed to sell their stuff? (NIL and Revenue Sharing)

Give them a free education and some form of health care after they are done playing just like vets get from the DOD
Oh great, all we need is more homeless on freeway ramps flying signs that read : CFB Vet. Need a Burger and Beer. God Bless.
This Cali idea is just bad
Is it worse than the 19c model of affluent amateur student athletes who play just for the fun and exercise and school pride that we're currently working on? That hasn't been working for a long, long time.
Either that or go to full on semi pro football and drop the pretense
Seems inevitable. How do universities keep their finger in the pie without jeopardizing their non-profit status is the big question. There has to be some way of having semi-pro, club level revenue sports that are still affiliated with a university. If there's a McDonalds on campus does anyone care about the employee's academic status or how much they're paid? I'm sure a lot of suits are frantically looking at every angle now.

You will have boosters willing to pay more for student athletes likenesses/endorsements/names in the south than you know what to do with.

"Come to [insert SEC school here] and we have a guy who will pay you [insert dollar amount here] to endorse his [insert business name here]"

and it will be 100% legal
Correction: ALL entities will be permitted to pay for business pursuits, and it will be above the table.

Good luck with that, non-B1G schools. I'm sure bag man joe will be able to keep pace with an army of corporate placements, particularly since those could be linked to jump starting Mr. Ohio Football 2040 in his eventual career in advertising (or whatever).

The B1G has almost 2/3 of this list:

Alumni by school

415k - 15th - Florida
425k - 14th - Illinois (including founders of Paypal, Youtube & Yelp)
435k - 13th - Wisconsin (CEOs of Exxon, Travelocity, etc)
436k - 12th - Texas A&M
470k - 11th - NYU
479k - 10th - Purdue
482k - 9th - Texas
486k - 8th - Rutgers (CEOs of Motorola, Spirit, Avon, BB&B)
499k - 7th - Cal Berkley
500k - 6th - OSU (Caesars, L Brands)
500k - 5th - UC LA
552k - 4th - MSU (Cavs owner, Pistons owner)
575k - 3rd - UM (CEOs of Google, Craigslist, formerly Toys R Us )
650k - 2nd - IU (Cisco CEO, Mark Cuban)
673k - 1st - PSU (Nike, Merk CEOs)

Give them a 4k raise to their stipend, long term security (healthcare) and NCAA Football the video game. they'd take that in a heartbeat.

p.s. Is the education thing across the board? Or is that just something that bigger schools do for free in the B1G? (where guys can come back to finish their degrees for free)

End of "amateur" football, and any remaining competitive parity, as we know it. As DBB mentioned earlier, this is so obvious that it shouldn't even have to be mentioned. Funneling money to players through "endorsements" is little different than just flat out paying them to come to your school. Fortunately for Ohio State, its brand name, expansive alumni base, and massive coffers will allow it to keep up with most any other school in the land. Phil Knight has to be creaming in his jeans right now...

I would say that every school has their own version of the GI bill. If they come up with a reciprocal agreement between the schools so that location isn't a factor then so much the better.

I'm all for changing the model but you have to have some form of control over inducements or it's all out free agency coming out of high school.

I mean, I don't really give a shit, OSU will be fine but it seems like you'll have even more of a stark divide between the have's and have not's than already exists.

Who knows? Will be interesting that's for sure.

How else do you get around Title IX without privatizing it? It would seem the current model is done within the next 4 years. Only thing for sure is it will be interesting.

If I was smart enough to be able to unfuck college football I would have found a way to outlaw tsun and cure cancer a long time ago.

Don't hate on my retirement plan.

Did the McD's worker get a full ride?

What does all of this mean for other sports? Men's football brings in more $$$ similar to USMNT soccer. Will a case of a women's sport or different men's sport raise an issue with no endorsements to play water checkers for TSUN or shower tickling for PSU? Probably.

I'm just trying to translate the writing on the wall--got a Rosetta stone handy? Maybe, just an opinion, colleges and universities should stick to education and farm/franchise out sports? Don't really know. The genie is pretty much out of the bottle though and wants paid. Can't argue with that.

And, if there were a semi-pro team affiliated with the school in some manner that played in the Shoe would it really be any different? This seems more about a bunch of old suits in Indy trying to justify their existence.
