This topic came up in the 'not all in' thread, since a posted article mentioned that tOSU has not yet awarded the 2010 Gold Pants.

No way a Freshman who contributes to a 2011 Big-10 Championship should have to wait until January 2015 to receive and wear his 2011 ring. You might as well ban their cars because they might drive drunk during their eligibility. And I know one it not an eligibility issue and one is, but they are legally responsible adults.

Getting a DUI won't get wins vacated or put the program on probation.

No that would be rather pointless as it would only address 1 of thousands of ways to violate NCAA rules.

If you want to keep athletes from violating NCAA rules you better lock them up in cages only letting them out for class and practice under the direct supervision of athletic department officials.

I voted to withhold until after the hearings for two reasons.

1. If the team has to vacate wins (including The Game), do the players have to return the gold pants? If so, then just be cautious and wait.

B. Show the players that these awards are to be treated with more respect. And also show the university has some power over said items.

I agree. Nothing should be changed. People need to take responsibility and if they can't do that, then punish them. You can't blame the NCAA for punishing players who can't abide by rules that others have for many years.

Win vacated or not, the gold pants were earned. They beat scum. again. give them the damn pants. I couldn't care less what the NCAA says about the official win loss column. scUM got beat like a rug on a porch rail. Gold pants for everyone.

Agreed.

Keep it the way it is and punish those who don't want to follow rules. The many who do follow the rules shouldn't be punished because of the few who don't.

They're not being punished. Not getting the trinkets isn't a punishment.

I say hold onto them. Maybe by the time they graduate or leave school, they'll have matured to the point that they all realize what those trinkets are worth, and I'm not talking about financially.

I have been thinking about this since the issues came up in December. Why not hold them until they leave school/eligibilty is up.

I think it would be cool at the annual football banquet that the seniors then come up and get all their awards they earned during their career at Ohio State.

Yes it would be nice to treat them as adults, but like they say, it only takes a few people to spoil it for everyone and this is the case.
