Shoelace and the Heisman - where's Denard finish?

Look if you take credit away from Robinson's performances against all but Michigan State -- and some of you want to take that away too --
I'm puzzled. We're saying what he did against msu is pretty much what he's going to do going forward. Now you're just creating non-existent arguments.
then you have to follow through and suggest that other QBs need to be analyzed in such a manner. Take away UConn for Robinson? Then take away Marshall for Pryor. Take away U Mass, take away EMU. You can go through that list of top rated qbs and see how close the performances stack up.
We don't have to because you are the only one that's insisting on making this a comparison. Nobody at all has made any kind of comparison between denard and Mallet, Pryor or anybody else, yet you keep stubbornly bringing it up. I'm completely baffled as to how you've totally missed the point. It's very simple. He put up big numbers against bad teams. His numbers won't be as good against good teams. Any other qb is irrelevant to the discussion.

You've got a REAL issue when someone criticizes scUM, huh?

No, you have a REAL issue when someone not wearing scarlet and gray has a good game(s).

Would I prefer OSU played the spread as much as Michigan does? No. Would I prefer Denard over Terrell? No. But give the guy some credit, then when the Bucks show him a real defense we'll be able to say, wow, they really clamped down on a good QB. They cut off his running lanes, they covered his short routes and when he tried to go long he got sacked or intercepted. No team is better than who they play and who they beat. If you shit all over Dennard and Michigan now, then there is no real victory when you win.

Denard does not have to be unstoppable to make stopping him a great accomplishment. They are not mutually exclusive, nor do I need to ignore his struggles vs MSU to realize what a dynamic player he is and celebrate accordingly if they slow him down.

You took issue with selling the first five defenses short, when really they are that short of "good"

MSU is a lot closer to good but still have their own flaws keeping them from that status, namely their secondary.

As for improving, we need to see how they rebound mentally. I like their chances of following Robinsons leadership, attitude and humility better than their previous leader, but that gorilla on their back is monstrous.

Right now their defense is worse than last yr and that could move to much worse if Martin is out.

Fail. AS usual.

If Hairlaces is still putting up numbers near what he's put up so far in November, then he absolutely deserves the statue....

And that's just one of many but the most recent. I have done nothing but give the guy props for the stats he's putting up. He had to put them up after all.

what the fuck does this have to do with anything?

But give the guy some credit, then when the Bucks show him a real defense we'll be able to say, wow, they really clamped down on a good QB.

First things first, I already gave him credit. Secondly, a good defense already slowed him down to a crawl and more importantly, we found out that he's more of a wingback than a quarterback. It's too bad you are so strident in defending the skunkbears that you can't see this.

So says you. BTW you won't see very many shitting "all over Dennard [sic]" - scUM is another matter altogether. Take off your piss and blue colored glasses and actually read what others are saying please.

Serious question: what do you think of his passing now? Convinced he can pass? Still skeptical? Convinced that he can't pass?

IMO (and like I predicted in the UM-MSU game thread on Thursday or Friday), he's not an appreciably better passer than Denard 2009. He showed that this weekend against the 42nd ranked total defense in the country.

Let's start with OSU's defense - they've now held up against Jacory Harris and a good set of receivers and then held Indiana -- another good QB receiver combo -- to under a hundred yards while the game was still in play, keeping another passer and good set of receivers in check. What they haven't had to stop is a QB -- like Dennard -- who can run.

If the Buckeyes get ahead early in the game -- as Michigan State did -- and if they get up by three scores in the 3rd quarter -- as Michigan State did, then the Buckeyes can force Robinson to throw and take away all but his ability to scramble. Robinson played well into the middle of the third quarter, cutting Sparty's lead to one score and giving me another one of those here-they-go-again moments. Then the Spartan d-line got after Robinson. His receivers dropped three balls in one series, each of which could have gained a first down and one of which might have gone all the way -- the Spartan offense scored to take the lead back to two scores and Robinson began trying to force plays. No glorious finish, no more Heisman talk from folks who should have known better.

Robinson's improvement has been in the short game -- ironic in that Pryor's improvement has been in the medium to long range passes while he still has difficulty with the short pass -- but Robinson has receivers who can turn a short pass into a big play and who can get deep on most defenses -- including MSU's -- but he doesn't have a defense that can keep the other guy from scoring or get him the ball with a short field. He doesn't have a running back, or a running game, outside of himself -- sound familiar?

The question remains durability and durability becomes a bigger factor because Michigan has no defense, thus Robinson has to play the full offense the whole game.
