Floyd firms up visit date with USC
By Phil Kornblut

USC recruiters GA Mangus and Brad Lawing had about a two hour meeting with DL Sharrif Floyd (6-3 311) of Philadelphia Wednesday afternoon and they left with a firm visit date from Floyd of December 15-16. That's a mid week visit for Floyd who will have just returned from an all star game in Hawaii. Floyd's head coach Ron Cohen will make the trip with him. "Everything went real good, it was a good conversation," said Floyd's assistant coach Andre Odom. "They talked about how he would fit into their system and what the gameplan would be for him coming in. He really hit it off with coach Mangus and coach Lawing." Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel and some assistants are meeting with Floyd today. USC head coach Steve Spurrier is expected in next week. North Carolina also was in this week and coaches from Southern Cal and Florida are due in next week. Floyd has set an official visit with North Carolina for December 18th. He has taken officials to Florida, Southern Cal and Ohio State. There is no leader at this time according to Odom.

Philadelphia George Washington defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd, the No. 70 prospect on the ESPNU 150 and the No. 1 overall prospect in the Keystone State, is one of the key prospects the Ohio State coaching staff is recruiting.

The 6-foot-3 and 308-pound Floyd played defensive end and tackle as well as offensive guard in leading George Washington to a 9-3 record this season. Floyd made 50 tackles, had nine sacks and 28 tackles for loss. He blocked four punts and a field goal and also batted down six passes.

Floyd made an official visit to Ohio State the weekend of Oct. 24 when the Buckeyes played Minnesota. He has also made official visits to Florida and USC.

Floyd is still considering five schools. He has put Penn State back on his list, but just barely.

"North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Ohio State are the top ones," Floyd said. "Penn State is there, but not one of my top choices. But they are not gone from my list."

I'm sure you guys have talked about this before, but who is the rawest player in the 100?

1:55 Mike Farrell: LakesideBalcony -- personally I think Sharrif Floyd is, level of competition is not good and he needs coaching up, you just can't teach his size, body type, strength, desire and motor.

AC100 Changes
By Braden Gall
Published: December 9th, 2009

A major revamp in the Athlon Consensus 100 has been a long time coming. The AC100 - or the most complete list of the top-100 football prospects in America - has been the same since the first reworking a few months ago. Scouts have since had their best opportunity to evaluate these players: Actual football games. Players live up to the hype by leading their teams to championships and breaking state records. Others underachieve and even worse, give scouts insight to the off-the-field issues that can sometimes surround recruits.

...
The biggest switch within the rankings was probably at the defensive tackle position. Philadelphia nose guard Sharrif Floyd moved to No. 18 from No. 39 and is now the No. 1 DT in the nation. Texas commit Taylor Bible had previously been the top tackle but was substantially downgraded (No. 21 to No. 41). Floyd also jumps Atlanta tackle Garrison Smith for the top spot at the defensive tackle spot.

Floyd Gets Away From Recruiting Rush
Written by Phil Kornblut
Posted on 12.10.09

DL Shariff Floyd (6-3 311) of Philadelphia is in Hawaii this week for an all star game. Before leaving, he was visited by USC assistant coach GA Mangus as well as recruiters from North Carolina, Ohio State and Florida. Pete Carroll of Southern Cal is scheduled to make his in person visit with Floyd after he gets back from Hawaii. USC head coach Steve Spurrier has yet to have his in person visit.

Floyd is scheduled for an official visit to USC early next week, and he's scheduled to visit North Carolina next weekend. He has visited Florida, Southern Cal and Ohio State.

There is no leader with Floyd and no order with the schools at this point. All the schools are even.

Word on the street is Clifton Geathers father, Robert Sr. is looking for a good agent so Clifton can enter the upcoming draft. This is hearsay from folks who know Jumpie and Robert Sr. down here, so take it with a grain of salt. If this does happen, and it seems possible both of USC's DT's leave early, it opens quite an opportunity for Floyd and a lot of leverage for Spurrier IMO.

Except Floyd needs a lot of work before he can contribute, let alone start. Fortunately he's a rare blue chip recruit who understands his shortcomings.

There are very few John simons who can contribute as a true frosh. That is the realm of nfl sized men.

That sounds great and all but Geathers plays DE, plus for him to leave and have to compete with the likes of Dunlap,Morgan,Hardy Graham,Romeus,Griffen, Wootton, and even Austen Lane, would not be a smart idea

It has been touched on before, but i don't see any way SC could sell a playing time advantage over the Bucks. We are losing two starters in Denlinger and Worthington as well as Rose. The two-deep is wide open for Floyd to grab a spot if he comes in up to the task. As Jwins alluded, Floyds readiness to contribute early will be a bigger factor in early playing time than the depth charts.
