Shaggy Texas - Shaggy Bevo, Thujone, MS Pain, Butt Hurt, and BBQ (RIP)

Look at this glorious list of [Mark May] the Army has done to me in 11 years. Those are all PCS/Deployments not TDY. The deployments don't bother me as much as the moving every 1.2 years.

Ft. Polk, LA
Ft. Stewart, GA
Baghdad
Ft. Benning, GA
Ft. Sill, OK
Ft. Riley, KS
Baghdad
Ft. Huachuca, AZ
Ft. Knox, KY
Buckley AFB, CO
Ft. Benning, GA

'Merica! Fuck Yeah!
What, they haven't sent you to Bumfuck, Egypt?

Not only that, but they sold Ft. Ord on the Monterrey Peninsula along with the Presidio of San Francisco. They keep all the places you wouldn't want to go on a dare.

That's kinda expected though. Bases are rarely ever on prime real estate... and if they were, it's probably run down by now (see neighborhoods immediately surrounding Lewis-McChord/Camp Murray in Tacoma).
Hawaii is maybe the only big exception? And to a lesser degree Okinawa (tropical vacation island, but bases themselves are practically ghettos)? Perhaps Guam (never been)? Those are all about strategic location ... Navy likes their "unsinkable aircraft carriers".
That said, I don't know what the bases in Italy and Germany are like. Iwakuni was almost depressing... you could tell it was a blue collar town and when Japan's Bubble popped in the 90s it got hit hard. Almost like a Detroit suburb. Half manufacturing, half ghost town, all the kids trying to escape.

At least Buckley was decent in a suburban Pleasantville way? Plus it's an AF Base... ? Strangely I've never visited despite growing up in Aurora... but typically AFBs have good stuff?
I've always thought the worst would be those landlocked middle-of-nowhere places like Kansas, Oklahoma, etc. Pensacola and Biloxi were shitholes, but you could drive an hour and be surrounded by beaches brimming with spring break college girls (same age when I picked up E3)

I've been contributing to some of the off-football threads over there recently, mainly TV shows I watch, and it's both awe inspiring and maddening how... simple ... for a lack of a more descriptive word many of these guys are.

If it requires an awareness of subtlety you can forget about it. Their threads on Mad Men and The Walking Dead, for example, are chock full of so many oversimplified perspectives it physically PAINS me as a screen lover.

Texas

Belt buckles seem like a big deal. Don't have to think if you have a big belt buckle...

I agree, but it occasionally gets old sifting through all the board cliches to find actual content.

And I haven't posted on Hornfans in several months. That place is dead to me.
Good to see you back at BP. Before I go to Shaggy and ask, I'll put my question to you: Things don't look good for the 'horns. Opening the season with a highly probable loss to the Irish and a strong possibility of finishing 4th in the in-state division 1 level standings. 1) WTF is going on with recruiting? 2) If they do finish the season losing to Baylor, TCU, Okie and ND can Charlie stay?
