SG Walter Offutt (Asst. BBall Coach Toledo Rockets)

Great news on Offutt's recovery. It is surely a luxury that with tOSU's depth (and the character of the coaches) that Walter will not be pushed to play too early. He must be chomping at the bit to get on the court and show his stuff.

Patience grasshopper (showing my age a little here )

Since Walter was the recruit I knew the least about for this years class, I decided to read through all the posts and articles about him (again). I really doubt that he will red-shirt, and I think that he has the ability to be a great contributor as a combo guard next season. I really wish we could have seen him play this year without the injury and see his true ranking. I wish I could fast forward to basketball right now...:osu:

I think the only reason we were talking about the possibility of Walter redshirting was because of the injuries he had to both of his knees in consecutive years. It was not any indication of always thought about his basketball skills.

Agreed, Walter is an explosive athlete, just a matter of him being explosive next year after the knee or better to wait a year and rehab the knees even more...

According to Jeff Rapp, with regard to his doctor-imposed restrictions, Offutt was fully cleared on August 4th. Of course, they were being extra cautious in making him wait until then to participate in full-court activities.

Since being cleared, there have been no signs of health problems for Walter. At any rate, Offutt has impressed his teammates with how hard he plays (see my post in the 2008-09 basketball tidbits thread for more info).

That is good news...I still think it will be hard for him to get into the rotation as a regular...He has Hill, Crater, Lighty, Turner, Buford, Simmons, and Deibler ahead of him...

It is great to hear that he is impressing his teammates by playing so hard...We seem to have a very hard working team this year all the way around...
