Circle City Classic Challenge of Champions
Warriors pull off a stunner
After losing star Offutt, Warren uses team effort to upset No. 1 East Chicago
Senior Jarrin Forte scored a game-high 25 points, and Warren Central upset Class 4A No. 1 and defending state champion East Chicago Central 79-73 Saturday night in the final game of the Circle City Classic Challenge of Champions.
The Warriors were playing without Ohio State-bound guard Walter Offutt, who suffered a torn knee ligament Thursday and sat on the bench in warm-ups Saturday.
"We did it for Walter," Forte said. "He has the ACL injury and he's out for the season, so we felt like it was our duty to go out here and win it for him.
"We pulled together as a team. We knew we could do it because no team's unbeatable."
The Warriors (3-0) entered the game ranked fifth in Class 4A, but no one knew what to expect without the 6-3 Offutt, who was on pace to become the school's all-time leader in points, rebounds and assists.
"They played with great heart," Offutt said. "They did it for me, and I'm thankful to have those kind of teammates.
"The two players I've got right here, Jarrin Forte and Joshua Jones, they can play. I get a lot of publicity, but these two right here, they should be Indiana All-Stars. They need a lot more attention."

I can only imagine the feeling of having to rehab a knee for the second time, and then the feeling of everytime he goes to cut or jump the feeling that his knee could go out again...
Would love to hear a story of Drew getting in touch with Walter when he gets on campus. Drew really has been doing well and he gets nothing but rave reviews from the Panthers staff.ShakerBuck;1025048; said:Drew Carter should be a great inspiration to Walter....worked hard through rehabbing 3 ACL Tears, never gave up, and has carved himself out a nice NFL career.

Recruit suffers second knee injury
Guard Walter Offutt, one of four high-school seniors who a month ago signed letters of intent to play basketball at Ohio State next season, suffered torn ligaments in his left knee in a game Thursday and will miss the rest of his senior season at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis.
Offutt, who will have surgery later this month, had surgery to repair torn knee ligaments in his other knee two years ago.
Depending on the pace of Offutt?s rehabilitation, Ohio State might have the luxury of redshirting him next season. The Buckeyes have five guards who are freshmen or sophomores this season and two others besides Offutt, William Buford and Anthony ?Noopy? Crater, in the 2008 class.
The Warriors lost Ohio State University recruit Walter Offutt to a season-ending knee injury in their second game but have seen Josh Jones (16.7 points, 6.9 rebounds) and Jarrin Forte (15.8 points) emerge to post an 11-4 record. They also recently returned Javon Brown, a projected starter, to the lineup after he missed the first 10 games due to a stress fracture in his foot. Warren Central finished a seven-games-in-14-days stretch on Jan. 18, losing the last three by a total of eight points.
"Our coaches talk a lot about (what the team would be with Offutt) while we're eating dinner but we don't say anything to the kids," Heady said. "We talked about it the day after and said we could go two ways. We can say, 'What could have been,' or we can fight and make something of it. We're three possessions from being 14-1.
"We don't have a lot of margin for error. We have to play hard and play well to beat good teams and hopefully our guys learned that in the last week."

Rehab is going great for Offutt........Offutt has been cleared to warm up but not to play. His recovery is ahead of schedule but is being monitored by Coach Matta.
