Michael Redd has been working with local shooting coach Johnny Clark while awaiting the start of NBA free agency today, and Clark said that the former Ohio State star shows no ill effects from past injuries.
?He looks great,? Clark said. ?The kid is healthy. He?s doing stuff on the court that it makes it just look like it?s just offseason workout for him and not like a guy coming off two knee surgeries.?
Clark said that ?quite a few? NBA clubs have shown interest in Redd, 32, who has played for the Milwaukee Bucks since he left Ohio State in 2000. Clark said Chicago, Boston, New York, Miami, Phoenix and Denver are among them.

Pacers talk to Michael Redd
Dec. 15, 2011 | Written by Mike Wells
O.J. Mayo?
I understood that.
Jamal Crawford?
I can see that one, too, because Crawford could be 1-of-16 from the field through the first three quarters, but then score 16 points in the final quarter.
Michael Redd?
That one is a little surprising.
Pacers officials met with Redd on Thursday as they continue their search for a scorer off the bench.
Redd is a former All Star who has averaged at least 21 points in six of his 11 seasons.
It?s too bad injuries have made those numbers irrelevant in recent years.
Redd has played a total of 61 games in the past three seasons because of injuries.
I?ve heard from a number of people who aren?t in favor of the move because they?re concerned about Redd?s history of injury problems and they wonder if he?ll disrupt the team?s chemistry.
How the player fits in with the team is just as important as how much he can help the team because team chemistry will play a significant factor on how well the Pacers do this season.
With the $2.5-million "room exception'' now burning a hole in Glen Grunwald's pocket after the Knicks lost out on yet another free agent -- forward Shawne Williams opted to take more money from the Nets -- the next notable free-agent target for the Knicks is veteran sharpshooter Michael Redd .
Though he is well-known for his shooting prowess, there is some risk with Redd because he is attempting to come back from major knee surgery. He missed 14 months before returning to the lineup with the Bucks late last March. He appeared in the final 10 games of the season, averaging only 4.4 points and shooting only 23.5 percent from three-point range.
Former All-Star Michael Redd likely to sign with Suns
Redd averaged more than 20 points in six consecutive seasons before knee injuries

The Suns could use a pure-shooting off guard who's unattached and has an All-Star resume. And there is one available.
Michael Redd, who has a scary knee history, worked out for the Suns at US Airways Center on Tuesday, and the Suns are expected to sign the 32-year-old Thursday to address their need for scoring and shooting.
Redd likely would not play immediately as he learns the Suns' system and works into playing shape.
Redd worked out for the Suns along with free agent NBA veteran Ime Udoka and free agent Gilbert Brown, but Redd appears to have the primary interest. The Suns also had Redd's left knee examined because he has played only 61 games over the past three seasons due to two surgeries. Redd tore the anterior-cruciate ligament and medial-collateral ligament in his left knee in January 2009 and did it again in January 2010. He played only 10 games last season, averaging 4.4 points and 13.4 minutes and looking like a defensive liability for Milwaukee.
Before the injuries, Redd was a top NBA shooter who averaged more than 20 points for six consecutive seasons (2003-04 through 2008-09), topping out at 26.7 in 2006-07, and had a career 3-point shooting percentage of 38.3. Other teams, such as Indiana and New York, recently looked into signing the 6-foot-6 2004 All-Star now that he is a free agent coming off a six-year, $91 million contract with Milwaukee.
The Suns have a renowned medical staff, including athletic trainers who have revived players such as Antonio McDyess, Shaquille O'Neal and Grant Hill.
The Suns declined comment. Redd and his agent, Kevin Poston, could not be reached for comment.
Suns sign Michael Redd
By Arizona Sports

The Phoenix Suns made it official on Thursday, inking former All-Star guard Michael Redd to a contract.
Redd, 32, is an 11-year NBA veteran who has spent his entire career with the Milwaukee Bucks. Redd's career scoring average is 20.0, and averaged a career-high 26.7 points per game in 2006-07.
"Michael Redd has a proven pedigree as a first-rate NBA scorer," said Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby. "He will work with our renowned training staff to get into basketball shape. When he is ready to play, Michael will be a welcome addition to our team."
The Ohio State product has also had a long history with knee injuries. In fact, he's torn both the ACL and MCL in his left knee twice.
He's played in just 61 games in the last three seasons while dealing with his knee injuries.
In 2008, Redd represented the United States at the Summer Olympics in Beijing, averaging 3.0 per game off the bench for the gold medal-winning squad.
The Suns are hoping that Redd, a feared outside shooter, can help a struggling offense that has averaged just 84 points per game in their first two games of the season.

Michael Redd had other options.
He chose the Suns as much as the Suns chose him.
Redd surely envisions an opportunity for a significant role with the Suns, perhaps even starting eventually if he proves healthy and productive. But he had other reasons for signing with the Suns. Steve Nash and the city once again figured in the equation but the reputation of Suns head athletic trainer Aaron Nelson, strength and conditioning coach Mike Elliott and assistant athletic trainer Tom Maystadt trumped a lot of basketball reasons.
Nelson's staff saved Antonio McDyess from early retirement, made Shaquille O'Neal an All-Star one last time, gave Grant Hill his lost seasons back and kept Nash's chronic back issues at bay.
"That was big," Redd said. "That was one of the things that really drew me to this organization -- the fact that they had this incredible medical staff. I wanted to be part of that to get better. But I feel great. I thought I did, until I met the medical staff and they said I can make some adjustments."
Redd would have been an ideal pickup in a normal season, when he could have signed in July and spent offseason time in the Suns training room learning their philosophy and exercises. Then, he could have put that work to the text in pickup games and preseason games as he learned the Suns system. Instead, Redd avoided five-on-five play during the lockout because of his free agency status and now joins a season already in progress.
Redd returned to Columbus, Ohio, after a Tuesday workout in Phoenix led to Thursday's signing. He is expected to join the team Monday but not play in a game for up to two weeks. He has been working out and shooting regularly but admitted being "a little winded" at Tuesday's workout.
"With our training staff and medical staff, they have a history of getting guys to a point that they can be fully functional and competitive on the floor," Suns General Manager Lance Blanks said. "We're hopeful that'll be the same in Michael's case. Some of that will be on him.
"With his professionalism and commitment to being a high-level player and desire to get a lot back of what he's had, I'd be surprised if he's not playing in the next two to three weeks, maybe sooner."

New Suns Guard Redd-y to Go

Steve Nash, Grant Hill and Shaquille O?Neal were all players that critics believed were past their primes when they arrived in Phoenix. Since that time, all have experienced a renaissance in their careers.
Soon we?ll see if newly-acquired shooting guard Michael Redd will be the latest in the line of former stars that have rejuvenated their games in the Valley of the Sun.
The 6-6 lefty sharpshooter scrimmaged for the first time as a member of the Suns on Thursday, after partaking in drills and exercises with the team on Tuesday. Although he only participated in one practice, if it was up to Redd, he?d be debuting in Phoenix on Friday against the Blazers.
?I?m ready to go,? the Suns? new sharpshooter said. ?Coaches know best and trainers know best and they?ve been pulling my shirt and saying, ?You don?t want to go all-out just yet.? So they?ve been patient with me and holding me back a little bit.?
Since signing last week, Redd has worked with Phoenix?s renowned training staff in an attempt to get him in game-shape.
?(The trainers) have been hammering me,? he said. ?So along with the basketball stuff on the court, there has been a lot of training in the training room. It?s been relentless work on my legs.?
When Redd spoke to the media after practice Thursday, he tried to impress upon the reporters present that the conditioning work he?s doing now is not rehab on his knees. The days of rehab were behind him when he broke back into the Bucks' rotation at the end of last season.
The training he?s doing now is all basketball-related and being done with the idea of getting him on the court as safely as possible, especially since he's had no training camp or preseason to help him in that regard. It was also encouraging to see Redd playing without a brace on a left knee that has been surgically repaired on two separate occasions.
Before tearing both his ACL and MCL during the 2008-09 and the 2009-10 seasons, Redd was one of the most prolific scorers in the game. For six consecutive seasons, he averaged more than 20 points a game.
With that knowledge in hand, Suns Head Coach Alvin Gentry has been cautiously optimistic. He says that Redd is about a ?week away? from seeing actual game time.
?A lot of my teammates have said, ?You look like you?re ready to play,'? Redd stated.

Suns? Michael Redd working his way back to NBA
by Paul Coro on Jan. 07, 2012, under Arizona Republic Sports
Day after day for most of the past two years, it has been just Michael Redd, Johnny Clark, a basketball and an empty gym
Clark, his personal basketball trainer, started shaking his head amid one of their workouts this summer in Columbus, Ohio. Redd stopped, wondering how he had done the drill wrong.
?No, you?re doing it right,? Clark told him. ?I?m reading all these articles and blogs about whether Michael Redd can come back from his knee surgeries. I just wish people could see what I?m seeing.?
Redd?s return to NBA action in the coming days with the Phoenix Suns has been two years in the making and filled with doubt about whether he could do it at all.
Two years ago Tuesday, Redd pivoted off his left foot on a post-up move for Milwaukee against Kobe Bryant and heard a pop. Redd tore the anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in his left knee for the second time in a year.
?I felt bad for him because he?d worked so hard and tried to get out there,? said Suns forward Hakim Warrick, Redd?s teammate at the time. ?You gotta feel for the guy.?
The thought of another reconstructive surgery and a tedious rehabilitation process shook Redd to tears, he admitted a day after the injury. Redd then went to work, going through an isolated process to regain his form and get to this spot where he is close to playing, although not soon enough to face his former Bucks team tonight.
High hopes
After making $91 million over six years, Redd is playing for $1.05 million this season with the Suns. For a man who played for the U.S. in the 2008 Olympics ? the ?Redeem Team? ? this trek has been about his own redemption.
?Wanting to be the best,? Redd said of his motivation. ?Wanting to get back to where I was, as far as where I was in my career, as far as being one of the top two-guards (shooting guards) in the league. Just hungry.?

Suns' Michael Redd may make debut later this week
Coach Alvin Gentry says acquisition could play in home games vs. Cavaliers, Nets
by Paul Coro - Jan. 8, 2012
The Arizona Republic
On Sunday morning, the Suns walked through their game plan for Milwaukee while guard Michael Redd put in a workout that had him drenched in perspiration.
On Sunday night, Redd was nattily attired while his teammates worked up a sweat to beat his old Milwaukee team.
By Thursday, Redd could line up his work with his team's schedule. Suns coach Alvin Gentry said that Redd might make his Suns debut in home games Thursday and Friday nights against Cleveland and New Jersey. Gentry said he did not expect Redd to play Tuesday night on the road against the Los Angeles Lakers.
"He's getting close, not to being a 30-minute-a-game guy or anything but to the point where he can step in and help us," Gentry said. "When we get back (from Los Angeles), there is a possibility."
Redd would have liked to return to the court for the first time since April against the Bucks, his team for the past previous 11 years. After a second left knee surgery in March 2010, Redd returned to the Bucks for minimal action in their final 10 games last season.
"He was in good physical condition when we last saw him," Milwaukee coach Scott Skiles said. "He worked really hard to get back and try to get himself ready to play. For what he went through, to get come back and get into the kind of shape he was in was remarkable. Anytime a guy comes back from injury and gets back close to 100 percent, they've worked hard. Now if it's a significant injury and the same knee, somebody's working very hard to play gain."
Redd's return
Suns guard Michael Redd did all he could to get ready on his own in Columbus, Ohio, but he has found more to do upon arrival in Phoenix to prep himself for his Suns debut on Thursday.
Redd and guard Sebastian Telfair, getting in extra work to make up for being out of the rotation, followed Sunday's and Tuesday's shootarounds with on-court workouts led by player development coach Corey Gaines. The Suns and Redd believe he is ready to play Thursday at home against Cleveland.
"Absolutely, it's just a matter of getting out there and playing now," Redd said. "I'm loving the process too of getting better and getting in better shape. But when game time comes, it should be fun. I can't wait."
Gentry said he expects Redd still will have to get in shape after his debut.
"He's not going to walk out there and have everything be sharp and ready to go. It's going to be a process with him, but I think eventually he's going to be able to help, especially with spreading the floor and creating opportunities offensively."

Ex-All-Star: 'To come back and climb this mountain, be on this team and play, God is faithful'
by Scott Bordow - Jan. 11, 2012
The Arizona Republic
Michael Redd has had butterflies before every one of the 594 NBA games he's played.
That won't change Thursday, when Redd is expected to make his debut with the Suns. But the nervousness will be paired with a greater sense of anticipation.
Redd has played just 61 games the past three seasons while recovering from two reconstructive surgeries on his left knee. If he does take the court against Cleveland, it will be his first game action since last April.
"I'm so excited," Redd said. "The last two years have been the toughest of my life. To come back and climb this mountain, be on this team and play, God is faithful."

Michael Redd: Redd returns from knee surgery, scores 12 pts
Michael Redd - G/F - PHO - Jan. 13
Michael Redd returned from a massive struggle with two knee surgeries on Thursday, and played decently with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting (including three treys) with no rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 19 minutes.
As nice as the ball looked going through the hoop, we're not all that excited here. Aside from his wincing whenever he had to truly open it up, Redd was the beneficiary of some really bad defense and we doubt he can sustain more than 20 minutes per night. Maybe he'll prove us wrong, but we feel good betting against it.
