The next Ohio State hoops season might feel incredibly far away after what happened in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Friday. But Branham – the No. 29 overall recruit in 2021 –will bring some much-needed excitement to Columbus. Several times, head coach Chris Holtmann has talked about how he expects the high school senior to be an immediate-impact guard in the 2021-22 season.
Branham's title-winning performance in Dayton on Sunday will only increase the anticipation.

Branham is a pretty special player but after saying that most of his points in the championship game came on dunks. However, he does have a very nice overall game. Looking forward to seeing him next season.
I would be remiss if I did not mention that St. Francis DeSales had a really good player by the name of Watson. Have no idea where he might be going to college.

Branham is a winner. This doesn't necessarily mean he'll come out firing like a Washington type but it also doesn't mean he'll be almost reticent offensively like an Ehrens type. What it does mean is he will maybe start slow,but be watching and analyzing what he can do to be on the winning side. I expect him and Meechie to blossom together into a potent duo but the "immediate-impact" quote attributed above to Holtmann is disingenuous in my opinion. BTW that DeSales player mentioned in the post above is one of Malaki's good friends that he actually works out with. Not sure where he plans to go.

The 6-foot-4 and 175-pound Branham – who was considered the sixth-best shooting guard and No. 29 prospect in the class of 2021 – averaged 21.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game to lead Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II state championship this season.

Ohio State four-star guard signee Malaki Branham was one of the 30 boys and 30 girls selected to this year’s Jordan Brand Classic on Saturday afternoon, though the games won’t be played due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“While no game will be played in 2021, Jordan Brand still recognizes the high school athletes who have remained dedicated to the game and deserve recognition for their talent,” event organizers said in a statement.
The 6-foot-4 and 175-pound Branham, who was considered the sixth-best shooting guard and No. 29 prospect overall in the class of 2021, averaged 21.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game to lead Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary to the state championship the past season.
He was subsequently named Ohio’s Mr. Basketball, the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association’s Mr. Basketball, Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association’s Division II player of the year and the Cleveland.com boy’s basketball player of the year.

Branham told the Columbus Dispatch that Holtmann spoke to Jackson about him wearing 22 and that Branham will have to write him a letter to thank him for allowing him to wear it. He says he plans to write it soon.
“It’s a big responsibility,” Branham said to the Dispatch. “Jimmy Jackson, Michael Redd also, so it’s a lot of good players that wore No. 22, and I’m trying to be the next one. It’s a lot of work I’ve gotta put in, but I think I’m ready for it.”

Seeing some summer league clips, Malaki reminds me of William Buford. If he can come in this year and average 10 ppg like Will did his freshman year, OSU could well improve on their performance from last season. Malaki is definitely the young man I'm most looking forward to watching of all the incoming players.
