Ohio State basketball commits Meechie Johnson, Kalen Etzler and Malaki Branham signed their National Letters of Intent on Wednesday during the first day of the early signing period to officially become Buckeyes.
Branham, the third-highest rated four-star recruit in his class, is Ohio State's crown jewel of the 2021 cycle. The smooth, 6-foot-4, 175-pound slasher who plays for St. Vincent-St. Mary will bring his multi-level scoring prowess to Columbus next year. He's the No. 28 overall recruit, fourth-best shooting guard and No. 1 Ohioan in the 2021 cycle.
23 pts. for Branham last night in a victory over Canton McKinley. Since all the schedules are so pandemically screwed I cannot say with certainty but this may have been his last regular season game.
Branham had 27 tonight as the Irish rolled over Gilmour in the regional final. Facing a box-and-one defense he hit 13 of 18 shots. Next up for St.V-M is a March 20th state semifinal with Lima Shawnee who knocked out Akron Buchtel and high school superstar Chris Livingston.
George Manges from Lima Shawnee had scored 40 in a regional victory last week, and was averaging 31 on the season. Malaki Branham asked Coach Joyce if he could guard him. He was obliged, and stepped up to the challenge in the Irish 71-42 victory. Manges was held 12 below his average while St.V-M's offense never stopped. Branham only had 7 pts. but did what the team needed him to do in this one. One game Sunday then it's on to OSU.
StVM just won their 9th state championship. Sounds like Branham took control of the 2nd half after they were down at halftime. 37 points. Now it's time for him to come to OSU.
