SG Kameron Williams (Sayago - Uruguay)

I do think Kam is undervalued at being ranked around 80th in this class, but he's no where near a top 10 talent in this class and the NBA is but a dream right now.

I still don't understand how difficult it is to accept that mono is not just any illness and getting back in shape alone after being out 5-6 weeks with mono is going to take at least a month and maybe longer. Add on that he is a freshman that missed the most important practice time of the year and I think there is very little chance he makes it into the rotation at any point this year. The last 5-6 weeks were where the staff works on drilling the offensive and defensive concepts and now that we are into games, much of the practice time is now being spent on game prep. I don't know whether he should redshirt or not, but the fact that Matta has brought it up in conversation is telling.
Finally, a voice of reason.

Wigmon is the "voice of reason" if you think reason is picking four #1 seeds to make the F4, when only of those picks actually gets past the Sweet 16. In other words, I have not known Wigmon for his predictive skill although Wig's remarks have always seemed reasonable. Reasonable forecast and accurate forecast are two different things.

When has Matta ever suggested a redshirt for Kam? I haven't seen it. In fact, at the end of September (months after Kam started working with the team) Matta praised the two new guys (i.e., Marc and Kam) for being fast learners. October 10th (a couple weeks into full practice) was media day, and there was no mention of the illness then. It wasn't discovered by the public until nearly 2 weeks later, October 22nd. So he has been out what, 3 or 4 weeks? Yet there are people who act like the sky has already fallen on Kam. He could be out another 2-3 weeks but I'm confident that he will be back in practice at least by early December. He has been able to keep practicing his shooting. Yeah, he has things to learn but it's not like he is a novice at competitive basketball and Matta has specifically mentioned that he is a fast learner.

Matta said in the press conference before the Morgan State game that Kam and him had some talks about redshirting. I can't locate the tweets now but I defiantly saw them.

Yeah, I believe it was in Hunter's blog that had the tweets and linked I believe from the Ozone. IT was between the Walsh game (where he said he had been cleared and should return to practice soon) and the Morgan State game. As of last I heard, Kam still isn't practicing.

Redshirting is increasingly uncommon in college basketball, outside of an injury to the player. That said, if there's a team that doesn't exactly need another PG, it's this year's OSU team (that is, absent an injury to some other player besides Kam).

I agree that Kam isn't a point. YOu could say he is a combo guard because his ball handling skills are pretty solid, but his primary position is 2G and making shots, not creating for others.

Any word on if he's practicing full go yet?
