SG Kameron Williams (Sayago - Uruguay)

I do not want to get into a peepee contest with you but I think you are expecting way too much out of Williams in his freshman year of college basketball. I know that he is an excellent shooter and a pretty good athlete but please remember that there is a big difference between high school basketball and playing in the B1G. I would not be surprised to see AV get more playing time than Williams but I know that you will strongly disagree with that statement.

Wow, hard to disagree with a statistical recap from an All-Star game, but good effort. You're right, I don't think Kam will be behind ADV in the rotation.

I may be overestimating Kam's ability to have an impact next year - he may only average 2-3 points a game next year, but I suspect he will have enough of a role to do better than that. He is a pure shooter and this team doesn't really have one like him, IMO. I think they played Craft too many minutes last year, which wore him down at the end of the year (I think Matta even admitted as much after the ISU game), and Kam could potentially get in the game at the two so they don't have to put Craft there as much and play him as many minutes.

i'll be more surprised if kam doesn't have an integral role next year than if he does. i love players who would be much higher in the recruiting rankings if they were just a little taller.

if kam were a stock, i would be backing up the truck.

kam is an adequate on-the-ball defender, but his off-the-ball, team defense would likely limit his playing time. kam must add strength and he must embrace the complexities of team defense. purely offensively, he is an immediate-impact player. defensively? we'll see. fortunately, like marc, kam is a pliable, hard-working player who won't arrive with an over-sized ego.

A key is that Kam will be one of those guys who can spread the floor, he can do a good job running off screens to get open (& the opponent will have to stick with him & can't leave him open), and he won't turn it over because he's primarily a catch & shoot guy. He's the type of player who can be a very efficient offensive performer, and when you are replacing a guy like DT who was your rock offensively and need multiple someones to step forward to take shots, there is a place for someone like him to carve out some minutes. Now, he will have to ramp up the defensive intensity, but still I think there is a niche for him on the team next year provided he brings it on both ends and really embraces a spark off the bench role, and of course brings the same good shooting he has had everywhere he's been to this point.

5 Incoming Freshmen That Are Flying Under The Radar This Year
By Andrew Somuah

SG: KAMERON WILLIAMS, Ohio State
The incoming Ohio State Buckeye will continue the long tradition of superstar talent out of the Baltimore, Md. area. The 6-3 guard — weighing in at 170 pounds — will have to bulk up a bit to compete day in and day out in the Big 10 but Williams will be a freshman that the fans will appreciate.

Thad Matta is getting a player that has the athletic ability to score whenever he gets the ball in his hands. As one of the top scorers in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL), averaging 22.2 ppg,he was one of the top scorers in this 2013 class. The B-more bred stud will be able to step right in as a freshman and help an Ohio State Buckeyes team that struggled from behind the arc. OSU ranked 241st in the nation in three-point percentage at under 33 percent, so it is evident a scorer like Williams needs to heat it up.

Kameron Williams is not just a three-point shooter, however, but a top-notch scorer that can beat you a number of ways. He can beat you off the dribble with a quick step-back or use his flawless floater. One thing is for sure — he is going to be able to put the ball in the hoop. He’ll also dazzle the Buckeye fans will his leaping ability. Williams can flat-out jump out the gym, and with his scoring ability and three-point efficiency, he’ll be a defender’s worst nightmare this upcoming season.

Re: Williams is as skinny or skinnier than everyone on that list.

and

He's going to encounter problems defensively at the highest level because of his size.

mark me down for claiming that kam will prove to be one of matta's best recruiting coups that hardly anyone talked about. if kam has the mental makeup to perform on the big stage, then he'll be a big-time player. it will be tough for him to find substantial minutes his freshman season since his backcourt teammates are stingy veterans, but i think he'll prove to be a killer in time.
