SG Jon Diebler (2nd-Most Big Ten career 3-Pointers, Butler Recruiting Director)

I find it interesting that at the end of the games when Matta starts to clear the bench he always seems to leave Diebler on the floor until it is time to let Eddie Days have his 1-2 minutes of playing time. He never leaves Lighty or Buford on the floor, it is always 3bler and I can never understand why.

Two possible reasons:

(1) Diebler ran cross country in high school and has the endurance.
(2) He's a coach's son and can help get the young pups positioned.

Since I have a mancrush on Diebs....I did some analysis of his senior year.

I broke his season down in to 4 groups of 9 games....by my math that = 36 games so far this season.

Games 1-9
13.2 Pts per game
scored anywhere from 3pts to 29pts in a game
his low scoring games seemed to correspond with ginormous blow outs (NC a&t with 9, UNC-Wil with 9,Miami OH 3

Games 10-18
10.6 pts per game
Most consistent period of the season. scoring ranged from 9 pts to 15pts

Games 19-27
9.4 pts per game
lowest period of season. shut down by iowa and northwestern scoring 3 in both those games. Only 9 in the loss to wisky

Games 28-36
16.8 pts per game
lets just say Beast Mode
scoring ranged from 11 pts to 30

I like how he is on his game during the most important part of the season. :)

I believe this stretch coincides with teams trying to double down on Sullinger more and limit his opportunities. Diebler has had more room to pull the trigger in these games and has lit it up.

There were games throughout the season where Jon wouldn't get any open looks. Now he gets several open looks which just gets him locked in. Once he hits a couple open ones....game on.

I don't know if it's just me or not but it seems like Diebler shoots better from the corners at the top of the key. I would bet that his percentage shooting from the angles (top of the key to the corners) is less than the other percentage. I know when I played the game those shots always seemed easier for some reason.
