"A lot of people in Ohio had a lot of faith in me," he said. "Everyone including Coach (Thad) Matta believed in me.
UH...O.K. ...Congrats though, Daquean... I was definetly a skeptic of his decision."I'm just putting the work in now. That's the biggest thing," he concluded. "Tomorrow is a new day...I've got a bullet on my back now and everyone is gunning for me."

also the comments on a fast break team with coook, cook is decent on the fast break, its the slow break where he is best... no questions asked. also i wonder what considerations riley had moving up for cook, specifically his time playing with another big man and how that has to effect your on court style and performance. coaching a dominate big man is very difficult, playing with one is nearly as hard...

Ohio State guard Daequan Cook a puzzling pick for Heat
The Heat stirs the pot by trading its first pick to the Sixers, getting Ohio St. guard Daequan Cook and cashTrade also brings second-round pick in 2009 draft
MIAMI -- The Heat's identity crisis continued at Thursday's NBA Draft.
A team caught between a veteran-driven, win-now approach and a decided lack of youth, the Heat opted for one of the rawest players in the first round.
And even that move came amid confusion.
Moments after the selection of Jason Smith drew applause from fans at AmericanAirlines Arena, it was announced the Heat had swapped its draft rights to the Colorado State power forward to Philadelphia for Ohio State freshman shooting guard Daequan Cook, who was taken at No. 21 by the 76ers.

Signs the Heat made a questionable decision by acquiring Daequan Cook on NBA Draft night Thursday:
He couldn't crack the starting lineup of a college team -- he started one game as a freshman last season at Ohio State -- and yet thought enough of himself to declare for the draft.
Some of the comments made about him from analysts around the country include: ''needs to be more coachable,'' ''no clue how to play the game,'' ''weak work ethic and massive ego,'' ''pretty lackadaisical,'' and, topping them all was ESPN's Fran Frashcilla saying on the radio that he wouldn't draft Cook in the first round if he had a ``gun to his head.''
He had eight turnovers in a game in the Orlando predraft camp, which included exactly four other players drafted in Thursday's first round.
He hosted a draft party at a Holiday Inn in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio, and charged $20 a head, which either means he's an entrepreneur already figuring out how to earn a few extra bucks, or he's anticipating being out of the league pretty soon and is scraping up every penny he can right now.
Truth is, though, Cook is exactly what the Heat should have gotten with a pick in the bottom third of the first round: a risk.

Heat addresses need at guard by getting Cook

MIAMI ? The Heat addressed its need for a backup shooting guard when it acquired Ohio State's Daequan Cook via a trade with Philadelphia in Thursday's NBA Draft.
But there's some question as to whether Cook will be ready to contribute this season as a rotation player. His performance tailed off in the second half of the Buckeyes' season and he wasn't outstanding in the Orlando pre-draft camp earlier this month, save for a 22-point game on the final day.
Heat General Manager Randy Pfund, who called Cook a "big-time shooter," said Tuesday the team wants immediate production from its first-round selection.
Cook, who apparently doesn't lack confidence, said he's up to the task.
"I'm a great shooter, a great rebounder and will be a great defender going there," Cook said.
the answer is hes 35, not long... hes been injury plagued the last two seasons. id say two more year max as a full time player.I'm not going to pretend to follow the NBA because I really don't... I'm one of those guys that lost interest when the 80's stars started to retire. I do know Shaq is getting up there in age (for a center) and it wouldn't surprise me if he isn't in Miami, and the NBA, for too many more years.
I guess the comment I made was more on the angle of IF Cook gets some significant playing time this year he won't be the focus of defenses with Shaq and Wade on the floor and that may help him develop a little quicker.
he led the b10 from 3land, he made a handful of big shots down the stretch of games. the 3 in overtime made ron lewis' shot in the tourney one that you will never forget, without cooks dagger in ot youd never remember it the same...Link
I agree that he is a shooter but great?.....he won't be shy about taking shots that is a given.
