SF William Buford - 4 BTT Title Games, most Buckeye starts (Virtus Roma - Italy)

I have seen Buford live twice, and seen video and an AAU game on tv...The one thing that never really jumped out at me, but did after watching this video a couple times is his midrange game...He likes to shoot the ball from 18 and in...He has very soft touch on his 3 and his going to shoot them, but it isn't 3 pointer or layup...He shoots the ball from any distance, and that is what really makes him a threat on the offensive end...

I agree Crazy, the couple of times I've seen his games on tv, he does have nice mid range game. That type of offensive player is so hard to defend, because even when their 3 ball isn't falling, they don't have to get all the way to the basket to score. He should add a nice dimension to next years squad with his ability to score in so many ways. He also seems to be a good defender, which he'll need to be as we know Matta loves defenders.

Libbey's Buford named a 'Jordan' All-American

By STEVE JUNGA
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

A big week for Libbey basketball star William Buford got even bigger last night when the 6-foot-5 Ohio State-bound guard was named to the 21-member Jordan Brand All-American team. That selection will put Buford in the seventh annual Jordan Classic national high school all-star game at Madison Square Garden in New York City on April 19. The 9 p.m. game will be aired live on ESPN2. On Tuesday night it was announced that Buford was one of 24 prep players selected to play in the top high school national all-star contest, the 32nd annual McDonald's All-American game. That game is set for March 26 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee and will air live on ESPN at 9:30 p.m. "It feels real good," Buford said of the honors, "like dreams really do come true. I really didn't think these things would happen for me, but I'm happy they did. God has blessed me." Buford - whose fourth-ranked Libbey Cowboys (18-2) open Division II state tournament play tonight at 6:15 against Bryan in a sectional final at Anthony Wayne High School - is one of three Ohioans named to the Jordan Brand team, which is affiliated with former NBA superstar Michael Jordan and the Jordan division of Nike Inc.

The Toledo Free Press - A tradition for Toledo's future

SportsCover.jpg

For all the hoopla and attention showered upon Toledo Libbey star shooting guard William Buford Jr., the effect is hardly noticeable from him.
Buford, a senior on the Division II fourth-ranked Cowboys who has committed to Ohio State, may be a nationally renowned enigma on the court, but off it he's just like any other high school kid: a casual teenager taking life one day at a time.

How are you liking Libbey's tournament draw cbf40? Looks like VW or Bath may see them in the district semi's? Or Celina or Wapak, I guess...

This could possibly force me into my first VW game in several years...

Well you got what you wished for Schwab...Probably going to be at least a 15-20 point game tho...:tongue2:

Libbey (19-2), which was ranked fourth in the final Division IV poll, made easy work of undermanned Bryan (6-16).

Libbey dominated on the boards (32-18) and All-American William Buford poured in 27 points. The Cowboys also forced 26 turnovers and committed only 13 themselves.

"We never underestimate a team," said Buford, who also had eight rebounds and five steals. "We play every team like they're the best we've played. You have to take them one at a time because if you lose one, you're done."

Yep...I will be listening from work though, at a carry out selling beer and cigs. 15-20 doesn't sound too far off for a prediction I'd say.

Blade boys player of the year: Libbey's Buford a 3-time winner

William Buford, right, of Libbey High School is the All-Blade boys player of the year.
( THE BLADE/AMY E. VOIGT )

As William Buford approached the front door of The Blade building last Sunday afternoon along with William Buford Sr., father and son were turned away and directed to a rear entrance.

The superbly talented Libbey basketball player, who has seemed unstoppable throughout his four-year career, was arriving for his third Blade player of the year photo session.

Toledo Libbey meets Toledo Central Catholic next. The last game TCC came out ahead, one of the two Libbey losses this season. This will be a revenge game for Libbey and they really want a run at the State Playoffs. Don't count TCC out though.

They play Saturday at 2:00 at Perrysburg HS

Buford, Howard win top district honors

By STEVE JUNGA
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

Libbey senior star William Buford picked up his third straight boys player of the year honor, and Waite sophomore standout Natasha Howard garnered her first top player designation on the girls' side to highlight the 2008 Associated Press Northwest Ohio all-district selections. The 6-foot-5 Buford - who is set to play at Ohio State University and has already been named to two All-American teams - was named player of the year in Division II. He averaged 22.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 5.6 assists to lead the Cowboys to an 18-2 regular-season record, their second straight City League title, and a No. 4 final state ranking. As a sophomore, Buford shared D-I district player of the year honors in 2006 with St. Francis de Sales guard Darryl Roberts, and last season repeated that D-I honor by himself en route to a first-team All-Ohio selection.
