SF Sam Thompson (JB Monferrato - Italy)

Yea, he played pretty good D in the second half:
Second half stats:
0 blocks
0 shots attempted
0 steals
2 boards, 1 of those with about 2 seconds left in the game.

I'm just saying that for whatever reason(s) his numbers just really fall off in the 2nd half.
Sometimes when you don't have anything good to post maybe you shouldn't post at all :bonk: I guess you are never happy about anything.

I think he showed great confidence in the jumper last night and has been playing better as most of the team has since the wisky loss. It is amazing how good they can be when they force TO's and get out in transition. Tourney games typically turn into half court games so they are going to need continued offensive production from guys like Sam, Rav and Scott in half court sets to take the pressure off of DT and Craft to create shots for themselves all the time (which Craft was able to do successfully and hit some clutch shot last night). Those tough shots aren't always going to fall though so turning defense into immediate offense is where he thrives.

Yet when there was a big rebound to be gotten, he jumped higher than ANYONE COULD on the court (his hand was likely above the square on the backboard, and pulled it down. Indiana was trying to make a mini-run in the last two minutes when this occurred mind you.

BTW how does my sig look?

Does anybody remember David Thompson out of NC State in the middle 70"s?
He was an awesome leaper and bb player then. Sam kind of resembles him and i wonder if he was any realation to David Thompson.
I don't know but I think we would have heard about it by now. David Thomson was only about 6'5" I believe without checking. He was much more of a complete player than Sam is at this point in his career. I highly doubt if Sam will ever get to the David Thompson status but it sure would be nice to think about that:)

I remember when he fell on his head in the East Regonal Finals in 1994:

I wonder what that award stands for. I mean exactly what you have to do to win it. I just don't understand that type of award but props to him for winning it.

From the Big Ten release:

The Big Ten also announced 12 Sportsmanship Award Honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Edit: accidentally posted in Scott thread first

Great offensive performance by Sam today. I think he has come on this year in terms of contesting 3-point shooters on D as well. I think as an OSU fan you want Sam shooting a lot because he always shoots a high percentage when he takes a lot of shots and has a very good shot selection.

Ohio State notebook: Playing in Chicago a thrill for Thompson
By Todd Jones
The Columbus Dispatch Friday March 15, 2013

CHICAGO -- The excitement of being home had been building for the past week, and the good feeling bubbled forth for Sam Thompson when the bus carrying the Ohio State men?s basketball team was two blocks east of the United Center.

Thompson looked out the bus window at mid-afternoon and saw students exiting Whitney Young High School, where the OSU sophomore forward had graduated from two years earlier.

"That was cool," Thompson said. "All the young kids were just letting out of school. It brought back memories."

Moments later, the bus pulled into the loading dock at the United Center, the arena Thompson used to sit in the stands at and cheer on his beloved Chicago Bulls.

"It was a surreal experience," Thompson said.

And then he walked out onto the court where Michael Jordan used to fly.

"Coming out here and seeing all the banners and the 'Madhouse on Madison' sign was a cool feeling," Thompson said. "I always wanted to play in the United Center. It was good to be back home."
