SF LaQuinton Ross (Memphis Hustle - NBA G-League)

Matta has shown n the past that if he has the depth, he will use it. This is one of those rare seasons where he'll have the depth. In '05-'06 Matta went 9deep in every game (except for the games Oden was injured) and all 9 players averaged atleast 10 mins/game, 8 of them averaged 16+ mins/game.

I really think that we will see 9 guys play every game this season, close or not. I agree that down the stretch in the tight games Matta will go with his most trusted 5 or 6 though.

I fully expect the following to play a role in every game this season (barring injuries)..............

Craft
Scott
Sibert
Buford
Ross and/or Thompson
Thompson and/ Ross
Thomas
Sullinger
Williams
And maybe the Raven too

Sound crazy? This is the deepest team Matta has had at OSU.
what happened to Spoon ... clear the bench. I just don't see it your way. Matta does not play guys for the fun of it as the theme that you mentioned the minutes were very evenly distributed at all

I agree with the sentiment that Matta will play more than 6 or 7 guys if he feels the bench is capable. I also think he plays frosh that show they deserve to play. I think we know we have 5 guys returning that are going to definitely be in the mix. Craft, Buford, Thomas and Sully will likely start and if Sibert doesn't start, he will get good minutes off the bench. The question is who of the other guys will Matta use. I think Scott, Ross, Williams and Thompson will be ready from day 1 to contribute in some fashion, maybe as a starter and maybe as a role player. I don't think all 4 will all get significant minutes (one or two might not get any), but I think they are ready. Then there are the returnees that didn't play last year, Ravenal, Smith, JD and lastly McDonald. I've heard enough positives about Ravenal and Smith to think they'll be fighting for PT as well.

I think we end up with an 8 man rotation. Who will be in that rotation other than the first 5 mentioned and Scott, I have no idea.

You have Sibert starting over Scott:shake: He is a very nice player and probably will see quite a bit of time this year but he will not start over Scott.

I can respect that. We'll see when the season starts.

As for Sibert starting over Scott, I would have to say that as of right now I would think that Sibert starts over Scott. Sibert is awesome. Scott could come in and impress and change things but for now, I'm very confident that Sibert is the man.
Whichever one of the two doesn't start, will probably be the first off of the bench and play a significant role.

Not sure anywhere in my post did I say Sibert would start. I think I said he will be in the main rotation whether he starts or not.

I'm not sure why anyone would think they know who the 5th starter will be at this point.

Yea, I agree with that. It's just off-season talk though. I'm so amped up for this season that I literally can't wait! I've re-watched almost every game from last season and the win over Wisconsin about 5X (because it's Wisky and because Gus Johnson was so good calling that game)

It's fun knowing every 3 pointer in that game is going in, and Gus will scream everytime.

He was outstanding that whole game. Even when OSU would pull ahead by 15 points he would act like every shot was a game winning buzzer beater. I love me some Gus Johson!

I love when he goes .... Deibler for 3! Hah! Hah!

How can we possibly know how deep this team is when 6 of them have never stepped on the court in an Ohio State (or college for that matter) uniform? The enthusiasm is great but some of us are getting a little bit ahead of ourselves.

That's why we play all of those junk non-conference games. And they were the 6th best class coming in this year, so I'm sure they won't be blindsided by the pace of D1 basketball. Now playing Florida, Duke, and Kansas all before New Years will be a little challenging, but I don't expect us to go into conference play with a 6 man rotation. People will step up.

Those games don't tell us much, if anything. If you're expecting 4-5 freshmen to see major minutes when the real season begins then there is a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you.

Ninja wants to make a bid because he has the entire class playing next season:wink2:

I'm not expecting 4-5 freshmen to see major minutes. I'm expecting Scott to see major minutes, and Ross/Amir/Thompson to see backup minutes (maybe only 2 of those 3). You guys seem so apprehensive to play freshmen, or apprehensive Thad would play so many freshmen, but if their good enough Thad's always played them. Last year's team had 3 freshmen in the rotation, why would it be so crazy if we had that many in the rotation again?

I don't think McDonald will play a significant role this season. I actually feel the same exact way as the above post from 'neilmj'...................................I don't see what would be so hard to believe about 3 of the freshman being in the rotation every game, even a casual fan could understand that.................................It's very simple. Scott will play. Williams will play. Ross and/or Thompson will play...................................I stated before that the best off season battle for PT will be between Ross and Thompson to see who comes in for Buford and Sibert.......................................This is a deep team and they will go 9~deep. Take it 2 the bank......................

For one he said McDonald wouldn't play. Now I agree that I don't think the other 4 frosh will all play "major roles", but who of Scott, Williams, Ross and Thompson do you think will not play this year?

Scott seems like the safest bet for PT, but we all know MAtta doesn't like to play frosh, so I'm not sure how much PT he'll get over any returnee.
