SF LaQuinton Ross (Memphis Hustle - NBA G-League)

Wake up Q: There's still a chance that the progress sophomore LaQuinton Ross showed against Wisconsin, when he scored eight points in 20 solid minutes, was more a function of getting a good matchup against the opponent. He may not be a huge factor against Michigan and Indiana next week.

But Matta continues to see progress, revealing that the big change came after Ross played poorly in a loss at Illinois on Jan. 5, when he was 0-for-5 from the field with three turnovers.

Ross again said it's just about listening, explaining that he skipped the pregame meal against Illinois to take a nap, which didn't go over well with the coaches.

“I didn't have the juice I was supposed to have, so that backfired on me,” Ross said.

So he doesn't do that anymore.

This just in. Dan Dakich says Q is the key to Ohio states season...
I agree with Dakich. If Q can stay on the court long enough to be the Buckeyes' second scorer (and it's hard to keep Q from scoring when he puts his mind to it), this team could go a long way. His defense and overall court awareness are the keys to his staying on the court.

I was really keeping an eye on him last night and I noticed a trend in his defense. He seems to be trying to use his height and length almost exclusively and stands a bit too tall on defense. If he would just bend his knees a bit more I think he won't get blown by as much. If he can just stay in front of his man more, he'll be fine. His length and rebounding are special but when his man creates offense against our defense we have no choice but to sit him and miss out on his offensive abilities. His energy is definitely up and coach Matta rewarded him last night with more minutes. If the confidence gets up there with the energy level he could be turning a corner soon.

Loved the effort, composure while under pressure and his aggressiveness to the paint and on the offensive boards tonight. Great game young man. Need that effort on a consistent basis. Despite the end result, that was a great game. Can I get a foul please????
