Dime: Speaking of commitments, LaQuinton Ross just committed to Ohio State. How well do you think he will fit in to that program?
ED: LaQuinton Ross is a guy with a lot of talent. He?s a guy who was ranked highly early on in his career and faded back after his injury. I don?t think he is the same player that we thought he was going to be but I think he?s definitely getting better. If he can go into Ohio State, be willing to be coached, and find a role, I think he will be pretty successful there.
Ross a scoring diamond in the rough?
Ohio State Buckeyes
When LaQuinton Ross committed to Ohio State in mid-August, his announcement came out of the middle of left field. Although the Buckeyes were listed among Ross' top choices, many thought the 6-foot-8 wing might be destined to a school outside of the Big Ten.
Based on his play at Boost Mobile Elite 24 game, though, OSU might have landed one of the top scoring forwards in college basketball next season (and beyond). ESPN's play-by-play announcer Bobbito Garcia announced during the middle of the first half that in time, Ross will be the top scorer out of all the 24 players at the event. Ross finished the game as one of the event's high scorers with 14 points.
By the time Ross arrives on campus for the 2011-12 season, OSU will have a need for his offensive skills. David Lighty will have exhausted his eligibility and there is a good chance that freshman Jared Sullinger will take his game to the NBA after one season. Thad Matta's crew will have their fill of shooters (Jon Diebler and Will Buford) and though we have yet to see what the freshmen Buckeyes will bring to Columbus, Ross could be that scorer who is able to gain separation, get his own shot and initiate easy opportunities for himself and his teammates.

Tweet beat: Where's LaQuinton Ross?
- When I saw his name pop up on my phone, I figured I'd finally gotten my long-awaited callback from 2011 commit LaQuinton Ross, who pledged to Ohio State more than a month ago but has yet to tell me about it. I momentarily thought today would be the day. Then I discovered that Ross, or at least his phone, evidently had pocket-dialed me.
But it at least reminded me that the 6-foot-8 wing from Jackson, Miss., has yet to make an official visit to Ohio State. Curious, since he committed to the Buckeyes more than a month ago and, I am assured by his coaches, will sign a national letter of intent with them in November.
I finally got the explanation today from Wilson Arroyo, his coach at Life Center Academy in Burlington, N.J. Ross has not taken a college entrance exam yet, and NCAA Bylaw 13.6.3(a) requires that a prospect present a school with a entrance-test score before he can take an all-expenses-paid official visit to that school.
Arroyo told me that Ross is scheduled to take the SAT on Oct. 9. But how quickly Ross can get his score from the testing agency could complicate him scheduling a visit. Ohio State has only one home football game between Oct. 9 and Nov. 10, the first day of the early signing period. That is Oct. 23 against Purdue.
The next home game is not until Nov. 13 against Penn State. Of course, Ross could always present Ohio State with his test score and a signed letter of intent simultaneously if he chooses to visit that weekend. Not to mention take in the season opener against North Carolina A&T on Nov. 12.

A light Buckeyes news day on Twitter. But I did receive a question from a follower asking about 2011 commitment LaQuinton Ross, so I e-mailed his coach about whether Ross has received his SAT score or scheduled an official visit to Ohio State. The answer to both questions was no -- for now.
Ross, from Jackson, Miss., is a senior at Life Center Academy in Burlington, N.J. His coach there, Wilson Arroyo, said the SAT score is expected later this week (Ross took the exam Oct. 9). After that, Arroyo added, Ross will decide when to visit the OSU campus.
The timing would be good Nov.12-13 for the basketball opener against North Carolina A&T and the football game against Penn State on back-to-back days. That's during the week that recruits can sign national letters of intent (the signing period begins Nov. 10).
LaQuinton Ross' prep school coach says he achieved qualifying SAT score for 2011 and will schedule visit to OSU.

Catching up with LaQuinton Ross...
Posted 11/3/2010 on clarionledger.com
LaQuinton Ross plans to be at Lanier on Saturday when the high school basketball season tips off, although it won?t be exactly how Ross would?ve imagined a couple years ago.
The former Callaway and Murrah standout is finishing his prep career Life Center Academy in New Jersey, where he transferred last January during the middle of his junior year.
?I think if I had a chance to do it again, I think I would?ve stayed at Callaway for all four years,? said Ross, who?s home in Jackson this week during a break at school. ?But everything happens for a reason. I think I made a decision that will help me for future in college and hopefully the pros.?
Ross, a versatile 6-8 win player who?s ranked as the nation?s No. 53 senior by Rivals.com, verbally committed to Ohio State in August. Ross reiterated his commitment to the Buckeyes on Monday but also indicated he may wait until the spring signing period that begins next April to make his choice official.
?It?s a long way til the end of the season,? Ross said. ?I feel like Ohio State is the best school for me right now.?
Coming back to Mississippi for college had been a thought before, Ross acknowledged.
?I did consider Mississippi State and Ole Miss,? he said. ?I liked Ole Miss better at first. I started thinking about Missisippi State when I knew Deville (Smith) was going there. If I was picking a school in Mississippi now, it would be Misssissippi State.?
Although he?s 1,200 miles from home when in south Jersey, Ross said he still keeps up with high school basketball in the Magnolia State.
?I talk to Deville and Rodney (Hood) and sometimes Johnny (O?Bryant),? Ross said. ?It would?ve been nice to have had a chance to be Mr. Basketball and those things, but I made a decision for my future.?
