Lighty gets traveling call
Ex-Buckeye goes far and wide for workouts in preparation for tonight's NBA draft

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

If David Lighty chooses to get a new tattoo to commemorate the birth of his professional basketball career, perhaps he'll consider the words he spoke yesterday while catching a day off in his hometown of Cleveland.

"Sleep is something you need," Lighty said, "but it's hard to always get it."

The former Ohio State handyman had just gotten home from Washington, where he had worked out for the Wizards on Tuesday. About four hours before that workout, he had arrived in the capital on a red-eye flight from Phoenix, where he had connected en route from Sacramento, Calif., after a workout there with the Kings on Monday.

This morning, Lighty will work out for his 12th team in 23 days, in Detroit. Then it's back home to watch the NBA draft on TV tonight.

"It's been a little crazy," he said.

I've been fortunate enough to meet D-Light. You won't meet a nicer dude. My heart goes out to him that he didn't get drafted, because he didn't deserve that. He does, however, now get to choose which ball club that he would like to play for, which is nice.

Good luck in The League, David!

I don't know why I watch the NBA Draft anymore. It only serves to piss me off because of all that is wrong with the league. Kids like Lighty and Hansburough deserve to be drafted. There needs to be a mojor rule change in the NBA. No more of this signing international players who aren't even projects and have 10% at best chance to make the League stashing them in International ball and never paying a dime when they turn out to be nothing. You should have to either put him on the team/dleague team or pay the kid cash otherwise you lose their rights.

Nothing but best wishes to David, a kid who gave everything he had to this program since the day he arrived. Better to let the "reaches" go in the second round and let David look around and see what's out there.

Personally, though. I have to admit I don't understand some of the thinking out there. Let's take "Syphilis Bastarditis" from some unknown country as opposed to a GREAT KID FROM A GREAT PROGRAM because he'll play for nothing. David deserved better, and hope to hell to see him show up right here in Cleveland for camp. We could use him.

Peace

As much as it pained me to see Dave not get drafted last night, this will build the pile of sticks that will light his drive again. There will be many teams that will regret not choosing him over other players that just don't give a crap. I can see Dave turning into one of the greatest undrafted players in NBA history. Definitely better than the likes of Udonis Haslem, John Starks, Bruce Bowen, Ben Wallace, Raja Bell.....

We all know that he has the tools to do it. Here's to a great player and more importantly a great human. We are still rooting for ya Dave.

One of the best all-time Buckeyes for sure. I stayed up all night watching the NBA draft so that I can celebrate with him :(, and I have never ever watch the NBA draft! I can't stand the Cavaliers and Lakers drafting all these foreign players for safety stock in the future when they can have an American player who can contribute on and off the floor imeediately...not to mention his leadership skill.

David, if you are reading this thread, I look forward to seeing you play, and I (along many in Buckeye Nation) know that you will make us all so proud...even more then we have when you were here!!

Go Bucks!
:oh:

Dave and Dane REALLY got missed in NFL and NBA drafts this year. picking a foreign player or some putz out of Hawaii is a travesty. Good luck to Dave going forward.

I can see where Dane would go undrafted due to his concussion history.

That leads me to wonder if NBA GMs were worried about the durability of Lighty's foot.

David is a quality human being and he will get his just rewards in the very near future. I could see an invite coming from Cleveland very soon.

I say go out to Portland with Jon and Greg and turn that city into Columbus West!!
