SEC (It just means more.. even its losses are wins)

God's football conference is about to make ALOT more money. The CBS contract is up soon and the negotiating for renewal has already begun.
CBS has first right of refusal to match any outside offers, but many simply don't believe they can spend what ABC/ESPN/Disney are willing to throw at them.

So where would it go?

The biggest factor? Disney+ and ESPN+

Begun, the streaming wars have...
So how much will all this cost?

I'll let @Nutriaitch and @Gatorubet speak for themselves, I'd be pretty bummed to see the league leave CBS. I bet there is some type of compromise made to share games (similar to what is being done now, just for ALOT more money).
But if the outside networks want to pay each school $20mm/year instead of 4mm, that's going to be really difficult to turn down.

CBS is probably the shittiest TV deal out there amongst the power 5 teams.

games only at 2:30
Gary Freaking Danielson
4.5 hour games due to a ridiculous amount of commercials.

literally every other network as more time slot options, better announcers, and by virtue of other games later in day, not as ridiculous of a commercial time allotment.

CBS can swallow an entire bag of flea infested donkey cocks.

My buddy has a working theory that this stuff is only possible because of their success with the Marvel movies and Star Wars movies.
When five out of six films make 1 billion or more, it leaves you with alot of room to play with come acquisition time.

They ain't making money off star wars any more. Kathleen Kennedy killed that franchise by making it about identity politics. Solo only netted about $117 million vs ~$750 million for TLJ.

In internal viewings of Rise of Skywalker, act one got good reviews. Act two got a 28. Act three got a four. Repeat, FOUR. They've been reshooting like crazy to try to make it not suck.

TLJ was the first film in the franchise since 1980 that I didn't see in the theatre, and I still haven't finished it. I tried to watch Solo, again skipping the theatre. After Han met Chewie I lost all interest.

To add some context to the above post. TLJ grossed $1.33 billion in global box office sales. Pretty good, right?

Red Dead Redemption 2 had $750 million in sales in the first 72 hours. (Small compared to GTA, but the highest selling title of 2108 by a large margin.)

GTA V had $800 million in sales in the first 24 hours. Between that and GTA Online, the Grand Theft Auto franchise has generated more money than Disney has generated with the star wars franchise since they bought it.

Pause to consider that fact.

GTA online generated $540 million in the 2Q of 2019. Not bad for a game that was released in 2015.

GTA V is only the third video game ever to sell more than 100 million copies. Only Minecraft and Tetris have sold more copies.

RDR2 already has 26.4 million copies sold, and that doesn't include the recent PC release. That's just under $1.6 billion for you counting at home.

And the story is so much better.

Fuck star wars.

RDR2 had 500 physical actors, 700 voice actors, and over 500,000 LINES of dialogue.

The voice dialogue alone would take 29 days to listen to every line.

I hate the concept of having to have a subscription with Disney, Espn, or any other ass-hat outft to see a few decent football games on Saturday. I want the games to stay with CBS, horrendous announcing aside. IOW, "Get off my lawn!"

I think you overestimate the money at ESPN's disposal. See recent talent exodus.
Disney may be backer, but the business unit still has to be self sustaining.
They used to have exclusive share of T1 and T2 rights of B1G and L10. In both, they had to enter a joint agreement with Fox.
I wouldn't be surprised to see similar in this case where they end up sharing it with CBS.

Well, that's a bit of a risk. I have little doubt it'll be popular in the South East. But.. national coverage? I'm not paying a shit load to watch much SEC football if I get something else for free. It seems like the Apple model vis a vis PC. Make yourself exclusive and charge out the ass for it v. make yourself available to everyone at a more affordable cost.

It has worked for iPhone vs Android though. I refuse to touch Apple, but evidently a lot of people love overpaying for Communist products they never fully own.

You sure it wasn’t because they pumped out too many movies in too short of time, saturated the market, made the brand less special, and oh by the way the movies weren’t that great to begin with?

No, you’re probably right, it’s not because the movies weren’t very good and there were too many of them, it’s because there were too many minorities and they talked about it too much.
