SEC (It just means more.. even its losses are wins)

Don't kid yourself about UGA.

When I was late teens, early 20s I traveled a lot throughout The South
Would go to a lot of Cattle auctions, so it was actually mostly wealthy "Southern Gentlemen" who were alumni of SEC schools.

Not stupid rich Oil tycoons. More old school property type wealth.

There is a reason this little cluster here is what most outside of the region refer to as the "Deep South"

This group all have that distinctive southern drawl.
They all try to present themselves publicly as "good God-Fearing Christians"
They all talk about each other behind their backs, but embrace each other when together.
And while the racism isn't nearly as thick as the stereotypes suggest, it is definitely still alive and well.

That's your top 5.

South Carolina is 6th, and could realistically be 1st. If not for the "look at me I'm from the South" attitudes of the top 5.
I mean they're freaking South Carolina. Started Secession. First shots of the war, etc.
But the state is actually pretty awesome. Clean beaches in the East. Mountains in the west.
Charleston is a cool city. Great weather, etc.

LSU would probably be next by default.
But really, we get lumped in with the rest just due to our location.

Arkansas and Mizzou are Big XII at heart. They just won't admit it.
That's why their so pissed Texas is coming to the SEC.

Tennessee and Kentucky are hillbillies more like West Virginia than the rest of the South.

Vandy is Ivy League that happens to be located in a great Southern City.

Florida is a never ending episode of Jersey Shore being filmed in Gainesville.

Texas A&M is dead last, because Homosexuality is still frowned upon in the rest of the Bible Belt.

1. I know you addressed it, but SC is still SC. That circle starts in SC.
2. TAMU, Mizzou, Corn, and CU all bolted explicitly to escape Austin. So im not surprised Mizzou and TAMU are upset. The Arkansas schism was before my time, or i just wasn't paying attention (bc who really gives a shit about that state anyway?)
3. Homosexuality may be publicly* frowned upon, but i find closeted homosexuality rebranded as masculinity hiding behind stolen valor to be a uniquely Southern take.
3b. The best argument against Aggie is their academics, specifically Petroleum Engineering. But is that just because we were still killing whales for oil back when the "deep south" was codified into national culture?

that's why I said they could easily be #1.
they are absolutely as "Southern" as it gets. they just don't quite mesh with the rest of that group to be inside the circle with them.

the ones inside the circle like to circle jerk each other about being "southern" and make sure to tell the world they are.

whereas SC just is Southern. You know it, I know it, hell people in Argentina know it.
they don't have to remind anyone. people just know.

I can honestly say that other than A&M, I haven't run into this phenomenon anywhere else in the South (or rest of the country really).

the list of why is a long one.
the most important one is:

When you wrote point 3 above, were you thinking of Ashley Wilkes from Gone With the Wind?

These people are the worst. Slightly below and usually the same people that say Ohio State wouldn't win a game if they were in the SEC.
those people are stupid.
they even think Vandy would win the B1G.

Ohio State would absolutely be competitive.
depending on division they would be in is what would determine how many titles they could win.

I was thinking of all the weirdos i saw during my time in Pcola, NOLA, and Biloxi.
Going closet mode and trying to make up with "ultramasculine" energy was a dead giveaway.
First couple times i just thought it was small d energy - that's what happens in the rest of the country - but in the south overcompensation means gay.

Im sure it's obvious to some, but for the record... I wasn't in 2 of those places by choice. NOLA was a reprieve within weekend driving distance.
yeah, NOLA to Biloxi is a quick drive.
we used to go to the MS Coast pretty regular in late teens early 20s. Was like a 2 hour drive for me, with NOLA being close to midway.

I've only been down that way (other than blowing through on interstate) a few times since Katrina remolded it.

OK, @Nutriaitch. I have a question. A high school classmate of mine has a daughter who is going to Ole Miss this Fall. According to her facebook page, she went to Oxford to be with her daughter during sorority rush. Is this some weird SEC! shit that I've never heard about, or is this woman just a bit off? She had a reputation in high school for being one of the best looking girls in the class but also dumb as dirt and completely self-absorbed.
