Seahawks (ex-USC) Coach Pete Carroll (official thread)

Lots of negative commentary here and elsewhere on BP regarding the Rooney Rule. I disagree - think it's a good rule, and the relative abundance of African-American head coaches in the NFL compared to the college game bears out its effectiveness IMO.

The idea behind the rule is great. I'll give it that.

People just need to stop being racist and whatnot so it's unnecessary. Because it causes a lot of problems. The idea that a team can still be fined for conducting an interview with a minority candidate because people think it's not legit is stupid. When you make a rule like this, that's going to happen. Kind of asking for it, honestly.

Wish it weren't that way.

I think I know what Pete Carroll is thinking. He's done everything he can at Southern Cal, and it is time for a new challenge.

Yeah, that's it Coach. It couldn't be that Petey sees the hammer dropping and he's looking for an escape hatch. :roll1:

Shouldn't the thread title be changed to "Southern Cal coach Pete Carroll The Rat is Leaving the Sinking Ship (Official Thread)"

They just finished the delayed broadcasting the Hoyas vs Huskies game here. Anyone hear Dickie V take it to Carroll during the first half? I was just coming in but he was saying something about how "guys like that" "leave a program with the problems" and "don't care because they have their money". He was VERY dismissive of Carroll.

Stories breaking that Carroll dropped his requirement to have total control over personnel because the NCAA refused to accept USC football self-imposed sanctions.

Morality seems to be breaking out all over the place.

Yeah, I heard it yesterday. Hilarious because he heaps praise on a creep like Calipari who has done just that to not one, but two programs.

Perhaps he should become an ESPN announcer for a couple years, then croak from cancer. Then Dickie V. could bestow posthumous sainthood upon him.

I'm not saying it is necessarily a bad idea but it might be made more flexible. If Bill Cowher tells a team that he wants to coach them forcing that team to go out and interview a minority candidate who has 0% chance of getting the job is unfair for everyone, IMHO.

Interesting, Leslie Frazier might be getting a head coaching job after all. :)

Frazier 'the clubhouse leader' for the Bills

ProFootballTalk.com reports: During Saturday afternoon's special playoff edition of Football Night In America, Peter King pointed out that Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier's recent interview with the Bills has made him the "clubhouse leader" for the job.
The former Bear also interviewed for the Seattle job and his name has been mentioned as a candidate for the Bears defensive coordinator position.
