Seahawks (ex-USC) Coach Pete Carroll (official thread)

I hope this is a joke.

He didn't even have a face to face with the team?

Incredible.
SC's season ended two weeks ago, it is the off-season, plus everything transpired hastily over the weekend. I'm willing to cut Pete Carroll a little bit of slack here until I learn more.

I don't know exactly what the off-season rules are, but I'm sure USC's compliance department wouldn't allow any team meetings attended by coaches to occur off-season if they would be a violation of NCAA rules, since we know how strict and vigilant SC's compliance dept can be.

He's holding a meeting with his team today, as the kids return to classes. It was schedule before the hiring and appears to still be on. So he will address the team face to face.

USC's Pete Carroll says Seattle Seahawks' coaching job 'came out of nowhere' - ESPN

The newspaper also reported that USC players received text messages Carroll would resign. A USC spokesperson told ESPN.com on Sunday night that the school had nothing official to announce.
Carroll had already planned a team meeting for Monday afternoon, on the day the Trojans return to class after the winter break. A team spokesman said that meeting is still on.
"By far the most difficult thing is leaving the young guys that just came into the program and just started," Carroll said in the Times interview.

They have a team meeting today at 2pm and it has been scheduled since before the break.

I'm sure he was going to tell them all face to face and would have if the school and team were not on break.

The text message thing is just kind of funny to me...

I'm willing to cut anybody slack on texting or tweeting or whatever for this kind of stuff. If you wait to have a face-to-face, they're gonna find out anyway before you even have a chance. Even so, I think you have to have a face-to-face somewhere in the process before just taking off, and it looks like he's doing that.

I know wikipedia isn't the be-all, end-all when it comes to facts, but that's still 3-1 against me.
So was this after PC?

Yeah, the '96 season was Parcells's last in NE. It was during that offseason shortly after the SuperBowl loss that Parcells made his comment, "If they want you to cook the meal they ought to let you buy the groceries." After that remark, he was traded to the New York Jets for the first three picks in '98 and their first rounder in '99. That first round pick from NY in '99 was the one the Pats used to take Katzenmoyer.

So the Big Kat does hold the honor of being able to say he was traded for Bill Parcells.

just watched the press conference live on ESPN.

Pete, was surprisingly upbeat, he met with the team and it seems he did a good job motivating them for the new changes. Mat barkley spoke, and he sounds like hes ready to lead the team without Pete being at the helm.

I dont think there will be too much of a drop off in the W/L column next year. Only time will tell though.
