San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

Police union threatens to pull cops from 49ers games over Kaepernick protest

Colin Kaepernick's decision to protest isn't sitting well with the Santa Clara Police Officers' Association.

For the third time in less than a week, a police union is ripping Colin Kaepernick for his actions. The only difference is that this time, there could be consequences for his team.

In a letter that was hand-delivered to 49ers officials on Friday, the Santa Clara Police Officer's Association told the team its officers might stop working home games as a response to Kaepernick's protesting of the national anthem.

In the letter, which was obtained by NBCBayArea.com, the police union said that Kaepernick's actions "could result in police officers choosing not to work at your facilities."

From the letter:

[Kaepernick] insinuated that police officers are being placed on paid leave for murdering minorities. This statement is obviously insulting, inaccurate and completely unsupported by any facts.

The letter also makes reference to the "pig cop" socks that Kaepernick wore in early August:

On Aug. 31, 2016, it was learned by members of the SCPOA that the 49ers organization has been allowing Mr. Kaepernick to wear exposed socks with an image of a pig wearing a police hat during practices in Santa Clara.

The letter then ended with the threat to pull officers from the stadium:

If the 49ers organization fails to take action to stop this type of inappropriate work place behavior, it could result in police officers choosing to not work at your facilities.

So what does the union want? To suppress his right to free speech?

Fuck them. Who the fuck are they to try to define and enforce "inappropriate work place behavior"?

If they don't want to work there fine, give all that easy OT money to someone else, but the 49's should be free to go work with other law enforcement agencies.

Meh, hire the hell's Angels.

That always goes well.

Don't know where that performance came from, but I'll take it. Absolutely dominated the Rams, particularly on defense. The Rams have given them fits for years, even when the Niners were still a good team. Of course, the Rams could very well be a tire fire, but it beats the alternative. El Guapo looked really good. Taking this with a grain of salt because they did the same thing against Minnesota in week 1 last year, then face planted...but I liked what I saw.

Also, it's pretty clear Kaepernick's career as a starting QB is over. When you can't beat out Blaine friggin' Gabbert, that says all that needs to be said.

Where it came from is having Kaep sit. I doubt this team is a playoff team, but I'm not surprised they are better with Kaep riding pine. Hoping to see more of Hyde again.

Gabbert has outplayed Kaep since last year, so that didn't surprise me. The play of the OL against a strong Rams front four did. The OL has been a sieve the past two seasons, and they actually did a solid job protecting Gabbert and opening holes for Hyde, Droughn and Gabbert to run.

And while the Rams offense is a tire fire, I was pretty surprised to see the defense put on such a dominant performance. They absolutely shut down Gurley after he torched them last year. Of course, we'll have to see what they do against teams with any semblance of balance, as they sold out to stop the run all night knowing Keenum was a turd.

Again, huge grain of salt with that performance, because they dominated Minnesota in week 1 last year before becoming a steaming pile of elephant dung.
