San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

Looks like they caught a bad case of Laurinaitis on that last drive.
They lost that game on that idiotic rollout on 1st and goal from the 1 friggin' yard line. You have two stud RBs in Gore and Hyde and you pass. Christ. Roman shouldn't be let back in the locker room. One of the most idiotic calls I've ever seen.

I know it may sound crazy given how far Harbaugh has brought them along, but I'm ready to move on. I think he's taken them as far as he can, and the backlash is starting. Plus, his offensive staff has gotten fat, dumb, and lazy over the past couple of seasons. Will miss Fangio, but if it gets rid of this horrific offense, I'm okay with it. Hell, maybe give Fangio the keys. Somebody's going to eventually.

Needed that. But doesn't leave with much of a warm fuzzy. Roman is incapable of adjusting to blitzes...and teams are gonna bring them with this clown show OL. Screens/slants are totally foreign to him.

Still don't think this is a playoff team, but at least keeps the hope alive another week. Never easy to win in New Orleans.

Chris Borland is a real football player. He and Shazier would have been a fun duo to watch.
Yeah he is. Always seems to be around the ball...just has great instincts. I think Borland and Lynch will be a big part of this defense going forward. Much needed after a number of "swing and miss" picks on defense in the past couple of drafts.

To continue my bitching about the offense--I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why they aren't using Stevie Johnson more. Every time he's on the field, he seems to make a play. Yet they continue to trot Crabtree, who hasn't been nearly the same since the achilles injury, out there to run lazy routes and catch little 6-8 yard curls. And while Boldin is usually still a damn solid receiver (even with the ridiculous amount of drops yesterday), it's ridiculous to target him 12-15 times a game. And where is Vern Davis? This offense is beginning to remind me of walrusball. They run few plays all game long. I think half the OLs problems are scheme. The defense knows what's coming, so they just pin their ears back and flood them with blitzes. Kap has a lot of great qualities, but recognizing blitzes most certainly is not one of them.

Another thing, maybe the most dynamic thing about Kaepernick is his legs. They were shredding teams with the zone read when he first took over. Now, that play has all but been eliminated from the playbook. Same with the pistol, where he absolutely excels. I get that you don't want to run your QB 10-15 times a game like you can in college. That'll get him killed in the nfl. But there's no reason they can't work it in 5-6 times a game. They're trying to make him almost strictly a pocket passer, and that's not where he's most effective. Especially when he's constantly under heavy pressure. Roman just keeps trying to pound a square peg into a round hole, and that's why they're a lucky heave to Crabtree away from sitting at 4-5 right now.

PFF loves Borland this week and for the most part, the season. As Buckeyes, we got to see the kid play quite often. So his nose for the ball really isn't a surprise to many round here.

Your depth at ILB when full healthy is unrivaled.

Season over.

1) The 49ers will get Aldon Smith back at practice this week and he will be eligible to play next Sunday against the Giants.

2) The Cardinal's QB (Carson Palmer) is out (for the season) with a ACL tear. Really now, how much do you like Arizona's chances with Drew Stanton at QB?

3) With the 49ers remaining schedule (i.e 2 games with Seattle, 1 game with Arizona, and 4 games with various losers) they are still in the hunt for the NFC West and/or a wild card.

As Yogi once said: "It's not over until it's over".
