Sam "L" McGuffie (Olympic Bobsled Team)

There could be a ton of reasons why we didn't offer McGuffie but at this point in time we are not sure what it/they is/are. Whatever reason it is, I'm not worried about it. I think LJB makes a great point...who cares and it's just going to make the rivalry all that much better anyways. What good is it if we kick some scUM rear because they have inferior talent...if we out-recruit them that's dandy but we need to try and get all the talent we can here in the midwest to start making a case against USC and the SEC schools. The fact remains that the midwest pretty much got embarrassed by the SEC this year and I know I would rather see the Big 10 prosper than OSU get amazing classes and have nobody to play against until the bowl games. Besides my trust in the staff's ability to assess a recruits talent, I have trust in their ability to develop the talent they get over anyone elses. We must do well in our recruiting obviously but we are doing above exceptional this year and I could care less what other classes look like as long as we get ours. Now guys like Koger I definetly want to see us get since we have offered but the others can do their own thing elsewhere. There will always be a Ryan Brewer that we face on every team...question is will it be Mealer, McGuffie, Moore, etc?

man, I know I am opening myself up to the white vs. white comparison, which I normally hate but when I see Sam I see Trey Smith

Trey went to Venice High School in Florida and played at Auburn....my best friend played for Venice and had all sorts of tape that I got to watch at Florida State....seriously, watching Trey my Freshman year at FSU on tape, I knew this kid would be big-time by the time he graduated from Auburn. Trey dominated Florida and also played in one of the hardest divsions..I believe they were 4A at the time with 5A being the biggest schools.....Trey even started over the back-up whom got a scholarship from Army, Ardale Scott, I believe. Trey broke huge runs, had shakes like you wouldn't believe, and had acceleration the teams he played couldn't catch....when I saw Sam's film, I saw Trey in the playoff games I got to watch.....the same shakes, same breakaway speed, same ability to make 5 yards out of a 2 yard loss

I know Trey got limited time b/c he got stuck behind Cadillac and Ronny Brown, but even during his senior season when he got to split time w/ Kenny Irons, it's just apparent it's another game.....I'm not Sam will have the ability to dominate like he did in Texas, nobody does, I guess when you go from High School to college...I guess I'll just trust the coaches and their ability to evaluate future talent and growth potential....like Trey, I wouldn't be surprised to see him turn into a special teams warrior and even catch on in the NFL as a special teams player, but I'd be surprised to him as the featured back at any time when at UM if thats where he decideds to go

...If there was ANY doubt in their mind, then remember the old addage:

" if you make a mistake on a recruit, and he accepts, you have to see him every day. If you make a mistake and don't offer him, you only have to see him once a year" --John Cooper

.
(and forgive me for quoting Coop - but he is right on this)

No problem...even that dog would hunt once in a while...

Wow. All this because I said I hated to see him go to michigan? I thought we were still allowed to voice our opinions around here.

The main point was that Sam's a great athlete. Period. No guesstimations about him in college just that if he excels, I'd hope it wasnt up north when he does it. That is all.

If Ohio State doesn't offer him, then I don't really care where he goes.

This is my stance also. If players don't want to come to tOSU thats fine.
I really only care about who becomes a Buckeye . They are the ones who will cheered on by me. One exception is that if they are Ohio kids and go to tsun I hope they never beat us.
We can't have evry kid in the world on the team so I just trust the coaches to pick who they want.
So if someone like Sam wants to go to M he will learn if he has made a mistake.

No need to be a martyr.... You're still allowed to voice your opinion, and others (myself included) are allowed to disagree with you - that's us voicing our opinions.

BTW, our disagreement spawned two pages of discussion - isn't that what message boards are about? Threads get kind of boring when someone says "Recruit X is great" and everyone else nods in silent agreement.

So true...I wish I understood where people were getting this "Aren't I still allowed to voice my opinion?" crap from...

Wherever he goes IMO he won't be a Buckeye.

There is a 100% chance that he won't be a Buckeye as he has no offer.

But Even though I hate scUM and wish bad things for their programs, I would like McGuffie to choose michigan. I really would like to see him play at the next level and I am getting the BIG TEN Network. It will be interesting to see what his phenomonal skill translates to when he has some tough competition.

Darn it too late for the 49.99. Something told me to log on earlier. :susp:

Another issue I didn't see addressed about him not being offered was personality. In one of his updates he said Tress was just trying to feel him out. This kid could be all world talent but a head case that Tress wants no part of.

Anyway I want him to hurry up verbal to TSUN so I don't see his name pop up on every board like the second coming of Barry Sanders. Looking at his WR frame, I hope he bulks up to try to play RB, looses a step and we blow him up in the backfield for the next 4 years. I'm in a cruel mood. :tongue2:
