Sam "L" McGuffie (Olympic Bobsled Team)

No doubt my friend. I know exactly what you mean. We have limited spots, and also may have some position promises that have been made, and that have been accepted. I just mean, how devastating would it be to the skunkbears if SMcG wore a scarlet jersey? A luxury to tOSU, while a necessity up north,.. let's go get him.....
I don't know about that. If Beanie gets injured in 2008, we are left with MoWells, Saine and Herron, the latter two are both unproven, and of one of whom (Saine) there are reports of being used as a WR. . I'm not sure I would call that good depth.

Well Devoe will be there as well, and that is 4 scholarship backs behind Beanie. When was the last time we could say that? I don't expect Saine to be anything near a full-time wide receiver.

Sounds like McGuffie needs tOSU more than tOSU needs McGuffie. Apparently we are not drooling all over someone that scUM is trying to rub into our faces. (or was that just MGoBlue29?) The fact that we haven't offered yet is a telling sign, so much so that Sam himself has noticed the difference. We don't recruit like the rest of 'em do.

Oh, come on now. Good thing every fan forum has a rival fan on it or else holier-than-thou statements would run amok. Fact is, nobody who seriously follows Michigan recruiting thinks this kid for sure Blue. Many of us are still upset/confused we haven't offered Jonas Gray, a sick in-state prospect (I'm sure many of you have heard of), and that we hope our coaches aren't putting all of their marbles in McGuffie's or Deboskie's baskets. I personally am one to not believe any "silent committ" nonsense. There's a reason why it's silent, no one would know about it outside of the player, his family, and the respective coaching staff, period. Also, we have depth at the RB position just as much as you guys. You don't know how well Saine or DeVoe or even Boom Herron (best. name. ever?) will pan out and Mo Wells and Beanie are the only for sure backs. Mike Hart is stickin around for another year, junior Kevin Grady will most likely heal up and be a solid back for two more years (medical redshirt this season), and Brandon Minor and Carlos Brown are both sophomores this upcoming season. Depth is as much an issue for UM as it is for tOSU, don't kid yourself Mr. Schwab. P.S. I love Stump the Schwab...great show! haha kidding.

Are you suggesting that Wells (2X), Saine, Herron, and Torrence are no more likely to succeed than Ross and Hall?

Hall was determined to play RB, despite the coaches wishes. Back to McGuffie.

McGuffie is being recruited as a athlete, I doubt the coaches would bring him in soley as a RB. I also doubt Michigan is bringing him in as a RB only as well. Just ask P. Burgess.

The arrogance of some people baffles me...the staff has the luxury of speaking at length with a recruit to dtermine things like character and watching entire game films, as well as camp and combine performances. I trust them to evaluate talent a little better than any of us ever will because they have more resources available and they get paid a huge amount of money to do it for a living.

Things like "he needs an offer" remind me of the Scout boards...

Technically, McGuffie is a SPEED recruit.

Goodguy, i wasn't trying to be a smart alleck. There are times when I refer to recruits as WRs/RBs/TEs, etc and I find myself having to remind myself (insert Austin Powers quote: allow myself to introduce myself) of JT's recruiting philosophy.

I was thinking the same thing. I trust the staff's ability to judge talent more than the sampson's of the world. If McGuffie is worthy of an offer then the staff will give him one.

Rivals $

5/22

More on the June visit to UM by Sam, Daryl Stonum, Troy Woolfolk and Brandon Herron (Woolfolk and Herron are Michigan commits from the same Houston-area high school as Stonum, for those that don't know).

FWIW everything I've heard about McGuffie for Michigan is he will be a running back and maybe a returner. Last year you guys got two four star runningbacks. For you guys from a recruiting standpoint, the need for younger backs isn't necessary because of your 2007 class of Saine and Herron. For us, we nailed two backs we could hang our hat on in the 2006 class (Brandon Minor and Carlos Brown). Current depth isn't an issue, but future depth may be if we don't land at least one blue-chip RB. This is because 2007 was a near drought if we hadn't gotten Avrey Horn (3* on both scout and rivals). This year, although not imperative, it would be safe to grab at least two true RB, and if one of them is McGuffie, you can almost say for sure he'll be playing RB. I'd say currently UM be recruiting him as a RB unless we can land Deboskie and another back (D.Scott? lol yeah right).
