S/LB Tyler Moeller (official thread)

He played good for his first real time. Needs to tackle better, but not bad.

From what I saw, he was one of the surest tacklers we had against IL.
I think I remember him taking one bad angle, but I don't remember seeing him do the "stand still and reach" thing that was prevalent Saturday.
He blitzed well. too. (edit - except I do remember one time where he blitzed from the outside and lost containment on Juice)

I think finding a spot for both tyler/hines on the starting 11 next year is a must. The athletic ability of both players combined would be an awful lot for other teams to handle. Especially on passing situations when both can use their combo of size/speed to get after a defense.

Moeller at LB and Hines at Safety. Done.

Not that simple. Both Coleman and Russell might come back, and I think Sabino and could make a case for hopping one or both at linebacker. Both might have a strong case for being the two 'backers in on the nickel package though.

It is possible that if Spitler can grab the MLB spot, Sabino would be relegated to the SAM position. In that case, Moeller and Hines would have to battle for the star position. It is also quite possible that Sabino wins the MLB battle outright, leaving one of the two to fill in for Freeman's vacancy. We'll have some nice options either way.

How about the below 3-4 in pass-rush situations:

If Wilson is back and healthy:

OLB - Moeller
OLB - Hines
ILB - Sabino
ILB - Homan
DE - Gibson
NT - Heyward
DE - Wilson

If Wilson is unavailable:

OLB - Moeller
OLB - Hines
ILB - Sabino
ILB - Homan
DE - Gibson
NT - Rose
DE - Heyward

I'm a fan of having four down lineman even in obvious passing situations. I would take out Homan and put in Nathan Williams at DE. You would have four fast DLs, a big MLBer and a couple of LB/safety hybrids to defend the pass.
