S Kurt Coleman (All B1G, All-American)

yeah I agree just because Jamario was in on the TD drives doesn't mean it was his fault.. It's not O'neals fault our linebackers didn't tackle #30 and let him rumble for 22 yards (had them pinned too), not his fault Donald Washington couldn't get off his block and tackle the reciever who ran for 50 yards, not his fault Jenkins didn't bring Beckem down and let him run for 40 or something yards, it's not O'neals fault that Chikwa couldn't bat the ball down from Beckem, and it's certainly not O'neals fault that Jenkins couldn't get to the ball on the 2nd TD either.

Infact if I remember correctly they threw at O'neal 1 time and although the ball was caught and I believe it went for a first down, O'neal was all over his man and brought him down immediatly.

(now the real reason I came to this thread).....

Although Coleman has done nice things this year and has helped in pass defense has anyone noticed the lack of big plays from Coleman?? He played solid against PSU, but I thought he was put in because he was known for his INT's?? He hasn't done much in the playmaking and creating turnover department. I know O'neal is not a very trusted saftey among us, but I'm starting to think if coleman doesn't produce that we need to get a bigger more physical saftey in the game. I don't know why they don't put O'neal in as the nickle man and let him blitz or let him play a flat or something? He couldn't mess up just covering a flat or hook route could he?

The job of a safety: don't give up big plays over the middle and allow the front seven to attack aggressively. Coleman and Russell has been playing unbelievable. How many big plays have Bucks given up this year? The run support has been fantasic as well. The Wisky WR caught that pass and ran for nearly 30 yards before he was brought down by the corners, that one is on the safety right there. O'Neil is a good player and plays hard, but when he's in there, there are just all sorts of communication breakdowns like the big plays we gave up on the two drives. No way he plays Coleman, and No way he plays over Chekwa.

I agree he shouldn't play over Chikwa... I tend to remember PSU having a not to bad of a game last week and Coleman was in for like the whole game? Do you think O'neal was the saftey calling the plays and getting folks lined up? Animal/Russel get the defense lined up so communication shouldn't really be his problem. I think O'neal is slow in making HIS reads and is slow to pick up on what the defense is doing (this doesn't effect the way others play, but just the way HE plays). I agree Coleman is the better saftey but I'm just mearly saying that none of those big plays in that game happened over top Jamario or a result of him missing his assignment. I'd have to see a replay of the game to see what O'neal was doing on the plays, but all those big plays happened over #2, #20, #5, and #4. I think the staff was thinkin well if they're not going to step up and do something we gata see if someone else will? I don't agree with putting O'neal in because again he's not as good as Coleman but ya have to atleast try?? Last year Against Michigan/Florida I remember seeing a lot of #3 chasing people who were his man and his responsability but when people were busting lose against us in the Wisconsin game I can't recall seeing O'neal trailing the play because he got burnt.

The one player who I thought played very well was Anderson Russel. I'm not saying O'neal was the 2nd best DB on the day (far from it), but to say he was the reason for those big plays is being unfair. Again I could see if he was blatently getting abused out there, but he wasn't. He didn't make any plays, but he didn't get torched either. I think actually everyone besides Anderson Russel really didn't play well at all, even our All American in Jenkins. That was a very rare game where you'll see him miss tackles and then get beat for a TD. Very very rare

This was Jenkins worst game of the year, this was Donalds worst game of the year and the fact that we still did a bang up job on them and won comfortably has to make you feel good because you know they won't play like that for many games.

Before you go pickin on Jamo too much let me say that on the drive that started on their 3 Jenkins missed at least 2 and maybe 3 tackles and was on the man who caught the TD pass.
So before you started blaming people remember that it is a team game. The team gave up those points not Jamo.

haha dude that was the point of my message? Not to belittle you but did you read that? I was saying that Jenkins was the one who missed the tackle on on the 22 yard run and the Beckem catch, and it was his man who scored the TD. I was defending O'neal man

I was responding to this. It doesn't matter if you were blaming one player or another, it is still a team game and the team gave up those td's.

Jenkins blew that tackle.. he got tied up with his blocker, and then couldnt wrap up the RB as he went by... Laurinaitis was also in position, but got tied up by a blocker and couldnt get lose...

I think Coleman made that tackle..

PSU not having too bad of a game? Come on.

And the job of a safety is to get the defense lined up right so people don't catch passes and run for thirty yards before they are touched. They must fill those running lines and passing lines. Coleman has proven this year by the virtue that he has not given up big plays. In fact, if you ask people it was a done deal that Coleman was going to start over O'Neil in the spring. Tressel is high on Coleman and should be, and this is not up for debate.

Again, not to dog on O'Neil, but claiming that O'Neil should start over Coleman has no merits.

Understandable but here's what i meant by that.. People were saying because of JamO that we had communication breakdowns, and I was saying that that responsability is not Jamario's. That's all Animal/Anderson Russ, but communication wasn't the problem anyways. It was poor tackling and bad angles.

As far as me saying He's slow in his read's and slow on picking up what the other offense is doing... What I meant by that is that that wouldn't impact the players around him only himself. In saying that if that was the case he would have been attacked by the Wisconsin defense and it would have been noticeable that he was being taken advantage of.I do think Jamario has a bit of trouble with the mental aspect of football (who wouldn't, it's a lot to remember and learn). What I'm applying again is that his short comings don't effect how others play because they have their responsabilities, and during that game I never saw Jamario getting beat so he must have done a good job as far as following his assignment.

O'Neil is a key reserve and provides great depth. He's fulfilling his role, and he's doing a good job, and we should be thankful for that. Here's what we do know: that the coaches tried to feed him as much as they could after Russell went down last season so he can take over the position full time; that there were a number of safety related breakdown in coverage in the Michigan game; that the coaches had no faith in safety play in the NC game, which is reflected by their extreme reluctance to attack UF whatsoever; and that by many's accounts, O'Neil lost his starting position to Coleman fairly quickly into spring practice. And now you take into account of the fact that Chekwa has surpassed him for the Nickel, it's not like the coaches are committing some kind of grave personnel error here, as your first post suggests.

Tresselbeliever- I hear ya and I didn't mean for my post to sound like "Oh O'neal played great I dunno why he's playing"...What I was aiming at was trying to make people realize that our secondary just didn't play as great that game. Jenkins, Washington, Chikwa, and Coleman all had rough games. I understand why he's not playing and I'm with you on it too! I even stated that against Michigan/UF you saw Jamario lost in coverage and you saw him chasing his man because he got by him. I am just saying he's not the full reason why all the sudden wisconsin scored 14 points on us....I think Jamario's grade would be incomplete because he hardly played, but I think everyone besides Anderson would get C's in my book because it just wasn't a great game as a HOLE by our secondary.

Wow so much for talkin bout Coleman here haha
