The thing about Kurt and our DB's having a case of the dropsies this year is that Kurt has EXCELLENT hands. He was an interception machine last spring, played WR in high school, and could play WR for OSU if we ever get in a pinch. The kid is a playmaker at safety. Despite his good play this past year, I don't think he's yet blossomed. I have a feeling he'll have his "coming out" year this fall.bukIpower;1104735; said:Like the Ozone article said both our safties have to go hang onto the ball.... How many did we drop last year (mainly russel)? I bet we dropped atleast 2-3 a game.
I like Kurt, but I'd like to see him playing at around 200 for a playing weight. He looked pretty tiny out there, but for a first year starter I thought he did better than Anderson.
How the hell do you figure that? Russell and Coleman are the two best safeties we've got IMO.bigfrankfoota1;1105283; said:Russell is a good FS , Coleman could be a GREAT FS. This would allow the Bucks to get the best players on the field
DBs look to close gap in backfield
Too many drops kept unit from making big plays
In their defense, Russell and Coleman were first-year starters last season. Russell, a third-year sophomore, got off to a promising start in 2006 before suffering a severe knee injury. The fact he returned fully healthy for the start of last season was surprising to some.
Coleman was a true sophomore.
"They've got a lot of room to grow," safeties coach Paul Haynes said.
Then again, Doss snagged the first of his three All-America awards in 2000, his sophomore season.
It might bode well that Doss now is helping Coleman, working out with him in the offseason after dispensing advice last season.
"He would watch the game, then he would tell me, 'Kurt, you need to do this, you need to do that,' and then I try to use it for the next week," Coleman said.
Coleman is noticeably bigger. He played last year at 182 pounds, is at 192 now and hopes to get to 200 by the start of the season.
