I read the article. Never questioned his character. He seems like a stand-up guy.

I also believe that the article was very slanted, to say the least, but that's to be expected, as it's from a Mallett backer.

As far as Parcells, well....I think he's more of an expert of grading quarterbacks than Dave Hyde, you, or me :biggrin:. Not saying that he's the #1 source of how to do it, but......

OT: Listening to Sirius right now, they were talking about the Fiesta Bowl situation and now had JT on a second ago.

I don't think an objective reading of the Hyde article would lead anyone to honestly believe he was a Mallett backer before he started doing that research on his character and his game, and to say it is 'slanted' is patently ridiculous.

I'll give The Tuna his due as a defensive coach, but take a look sometime at the list of QB's that he has passed over in the draft. His rules for drafting QBs are ludicrous.

and he seems to have rarely/only recently followed them.

As near as I can tell, here are the QBs he is responsible for drafting (more or less):
Jeff Hostetler - 2 year starter in college
Dave Walter
Mike Perez
Craig Kupp

Patriots
Drew Bledsoe - left after Junior Season
Jay Walker

Jets
Chuck Clements
Chad Pennington (maybe still GM?)

Dallas

Miami
Chad Henne
Pat White

I didn't bother to check to see if the ones that seem to meet his criteria actually graduated. Of notable pro QBs, Pennington is the only one (again not sure on the graduation thing)? I consider it to early to call Henne a notable NFL QB, but he my have met the criteria.

Funny thing is, Brady started 25 games and won 20 of them, cause he was like seventh on the depth chart at Michigan, too....hilarious, that guy's been an under-achiever until it's step up time.

Manning won 39 of 45 games as a starter. One of those games he lost....

But Mallett might also be explosive in that he comes to the Dolphins as a potential bomb of a pick -- a gangly, slow-footed kid with a big arm but also a big possibility for being the next Ryan Leaf. So which is he? The Dolphins have a dozen days to decide.

I've never thought of the Ryan Leaf comparison, but the parallels are very real.

Positives: Huge arm, can make every throw... Strongest arm to come out of the college ranks since JaMarcus Russell... Some team will fall in love with his upside because of his unbelievable arm strength... Threw well at the combine, coaches raved about his arm strength... Put up big numbers, threw for 3,500 yards and 30+ touchdowns in each of his past two seasons... Very tight spiral, can really zip the ball... Ideal height and weight for an NFL quarterback... Very tall, allows him to see passing lanes easily.

Negatives: Inconsistent accuracy, tries to throw every pass 100 mph which causes the ball to sail on him... Doesn't hit his receivers in stride, makes his receivers adjust to passes... Awkward throwing motion, will need to be coached up and is a bit of a project as far as mechanics are concerned... Footwork needs improvement, doesn't set his feet... Uses his upper body to fling the ball, needs to stop throwing off his back foot and work on his stride... Trusts his arm too much, tries to throw into small windows which will be a problem in the NFL... Comes with character concerns, is said to be withdrawn from teammates and isn't very media friendly... Played for Bobby Petrino who has a history of great college quarterbacks who have flopped in the NFL (Brian Brohm, Chris Redman, Stefen LeFors, Dave Ragone)... Suffered a concussion in week seven this year against Auburn, knocking him out of the game... There have been several rumors over character concerns that NFL personnel would undoubtedly be aware of even if it never comes out publicly... Constantly gets compared to Ryan Leaf.

I bet the Bengals take him with their second round pick. I have no problem taking him in the second round. i would rather have Mallet at 35 than sCam at 4. He has more upside than Dalton....also a higher chance of a massive flameout.
