The Knights of the Raritan name, image and likeness (NIL) collective plans to announce that every member of the Rutgers football and men's and women's basketball teams — including walk-ons — will receive an NIL deal in the 2023 calendar year, ScarletNation.com reports. The massive deal comes as “as a result of the collective’s funding, and complementary efforts of supporters, donors and the corporate community," per the announcement.
“The Rutgers University athletics programs and fans are embracing the new and exciting world that is college sports during the NIL era,” said Jon Newman, President of Knights of the Raritan. “This announcement puts RU at the forefront of this landscape, and provides partnership opportunities for the athletes involved with the Rutgers football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball teams. We want to express our gratitude to our members and donors and we’re excited to work with every Scarlet Knights varsity sport on differentiated deals. This commitment also allows us to expand our member benefits as we enter our first full year of operation.”
Knights of The Raritan states on its website that the collective "was created for all student-athletes that represent Rutgers University" and that it aims to "provide those student-athletes with the resources and opportunities they deserve during their time On The Banks." The collective further states it was "formed to provide innovative ways for student-athletes to earn experience, develop philanthropy and benefit from compensation while at Rutgers University."
