Rutgers Scarlet Knights (official troll of PedSU)

Will Rutgers be as bad as the Florida A&M team we played back in 2013? 34-0 after the 1st quarter and 55-0 at half. Did not attempt a pass in the second half and still scored 3 more tds. Final of 76-0, but could have hit 100, if we would have wanted to.

I'm going to guess that their D-line will look like Swiss cheese for Dobbins and Teague, so yeah, it probably will be that kind of bad. I'm gonna go ahead and guess that Dobbins and Teague each bust off at least two long TD runs each in that game.

Greg Schiano reportedly making ‘significant demands’ in Rutgers talks

There were reports earlier in the week that Rutgers hoped to make an announcement on a new head coach Wednesday, the 150th anniversary of the playing of the first-ever college football game. At this point, it doesn’t appear that’ll come to fruition.

With buzz continuing to grow about a Greg Schiano-Rutgers reunion, the former RU head coach met with university officials in Columbus, Ohio, for several hours Tuesday regarding the opening, nj.com‘s Steve Politi has reported. Instead of coming out of that meeting with its next head football coach, though, the university headed back to Piscataway dealing with what Politi described as “significant demands.”

What those “significant demands” are is unknown at the moment, according to Politi. From the report:

Schiano is believed to want significant improvements to the football infrastructure in Piscataway, including an indoor practice facility that is a common recruiting tool on every rival Big Ten campus and would likely move the team out the existing headquarters at the Hale Center.

It is likely that any project of that magnitude would need high-level university approval before it can be included in a contract with the coach. The next football coach’s contract will need Board of Governors approval, and the university would presumably need to call for a “special meeting” to approve any deal.

Rutgers recently upgraded its football locker rooms, weight room and outdoor practice fields with contributions from donors, but the price tag on field houses has soared into nine-digit territory at other conference schools.

In what direction the university will head is unclear. Butch Jones, who interviewed for the job late last week, is believed to be the backup plan if the Schiano talks implode, the website reported.

It’s clear, though, that Schiano’s return to the Scarlet Knights is the university’s top option.

Schiano sign? Butch Jones pulls name from Rutgers search

gettyimages-856120686-e1573142656784.jpg

After a brief hiccup, the signs continue pointing to the gridiron gang getting back together in Piscataway.

With buzz continuing to grow about a Greg Schiano-Rutgers reunion, the former RU head coach met with university officials in Columbus, Ohio, for several hours Tuesday regarding the opening for a head football coach at the Big Ten school. No agreement was reached, however, in large part because of what was described as unspecified “significant demands” on the part of Schiano and his camp.

While Schiano has been viewed as the clearcut choice for most connected to the university, Butch Jones, who interviewed for the job late last week, has been considered the fallback option should the talks with the former RU head coach implode.

Thursday, however, it’s now being reported by nj.com that Jones has removed his name from consideration for the job with the Scarlet Knights. The development is yet another sign that, provided both sides can get beyond the “significant demand” divide, the university is on the verge of again going all-in on Schiano.

Are Rutgers and Maryland considered to be a full members of the B1G? If they are, they're getting the same $50mm per year from BTN. There's no excuse for not having an indoor facility.
No and they keep taking loans to push the date out further.
Yeah, Rutgers is basically getting peanuts from the B1G (<$10M/year) until their shares start really ramping up in 2021 - so until then they are taking $10M+ loans against future distributions, since their AD is so far into the red right now. Which all means they won't be getting full B1G distributions until 2027 at least!

I understand why the suits representing Rutgers call that "significant", as it necessitates a lot of red tape and hitting up some big time donors... but those don't seem like crazy "demands" at all.

If they wanted to just lowball it until BTN money was flowing, they should have stuck with Ash or an FCS kind of guy (those guys don't always turn out bad) and just carried on. Like half the Pro football and basketball teams tank anyway.

Wait, they don’t have an indoor practice facility? Seriously? What do they think this shit is?

Shouldn’t they be at least somewhat average with east coast recruiting? Or maybe slightly below at least?

One of the stipulations for a loan from the B1G should be to change the name of the University to "New Jersey State". If you're going B1G, go all in, fer cryin' out loud.

Is the payments from the B1G network included in those numbers?

They could, conceivably with the right coach and program development, turn themselves into the east coast equivalent of Wisconsin or Iowa. Never spectacular in terms of 5 and 4 star guys all over the field, but solid enough to play with the big boys most of the time. They'll never reach the level of what Ohio State is and what Ped State or scUM should be....and I have to say even being on Wisconsin's level is probably out of their reach. But they should be better than they are - New Jersey isn't totally devoid of talent and the DelMarVa area is pretty talented as well not to mention eastern Pennsylvania.

Report: Greg Schiano meets with New Jersey governor as return to Rutgers gains steam

With each passing day, a Greg Schiano return to Piscataway appears more and more likely.

With buzz continuing to grow about a Schiano-Rutgers reunion, the former RU head coach met with university officials in Columbus, Ohio, for several hours last Tuesday regarding the opening for a head football coach at the Big Ten school. No agreement was reached, however, in large part because of what was described as unspecified “significant demands” on the part of Schiano and his camp. Late last week, as Butch Jones, considered the No. 2 option to replace Chris Ash, reportedly pulled his name from consideration as the Schiano writing seemed to be on the wall for the former Tennessee head coach.

Overnight, there was yet another significant development as nj.com reported that Schiano met over the past few days with New Jersey’s governor, Phil Murphy.

Murphy recently spoke to the former Scarlet Knights coach, NJ Advance Media has learned, amidst Rutgers’ effort to clear what is believed to be the last remaining hurdle between a reunion with Schiano and agree on a plan to update the football program’s facilities.

Dialogue between Murphy and Schiano is noteworthy considering Rutgers, a state university that derives about 22% of its operating budget from state appropriations, will presumably need support from Trenton in order to begin its next phase of facility upgrades — the final issue that needs to be ironed out in order to finalize Schiano’s return, according to several people with knowledge of the process.
