alright, Joe-new-Jackets-fan here...so help me out with something? has the deadline passed?
no 3 pm tuesday

are they planning on just releasing him, and that's why he's on waivers?
apparently. i dont believe the report honestly. ive yet to see it on the wire. only reported by ek. who for all intent and purposes is a blogger, who yes calls some big moves. i compare him to some of the guys you see in cfb recruiting. he hits some big homeruns, but most of the times he swings and misses. i still have yet to see a major source to report it (read tsn.ca) time will tell but i doubt its true.

berard burnt the bridge that the org littered with gasoline. they aired out some stuff that isnt good. who really knows. i still see carolina got a steal in carter. that being said at the end of the year hes worth nothing, so you have to factor in the money you save dumping him. berard is also comming off back surgery and has only played 10 games. thats another knock against him.
Hainsey came through for me again last night. Love watching that guy play.
hollywood is a nice player. hes still relativley young at 25 ( i think) he has real nice offensive upside. played up and down in montreal (between the big club and hamilton the habs ahl team (basically splitting time between the big league and the hockey equiv of aaa), montreal has some serious injury issues on the blue line. hainsey was recalled, he had to clear waivers and doug snagged him. we paid nothing for him. great pick up. he has really really improved i think under hitch. its not in theory the best match, but for a guy who was considered "hard to coach" hes taken to it. seems to really be flourshing in the nononsene ken hitchcock style. so in conclusion i agree. has a nice offensive upside, good size and should only improve as he progresses and ages. still prob not better than a #4/5 type guy though on the blue line. (so essentially hes a second or third pairing dman)
I didn't see Glencross while I was flipping through the channels. What's the word on him and guys like Geoff Platt and Methot?

platt got sent back down to cuse. he really is a great story, a guy who wasnt drafted and made his way through the columbus system. lacks size to really play at the nhl level.

methot, a young kid. that was his first nhl game. ive never seen him play in person. though he looked big, even for his 6 3 200lbs frame. hes a 21 year old who has been maturing down in cuse. id heard he had really started to turn into a solid steady ahl player in a pairing with pushor (yikes!) hes a london knight (like nash) who i beleive is like plus 13 down in cuse. limited offensive upside, but looks to be a solid stay at home guy. id like to see him hang around for a try out with the big boys (6 or so games min up here )

glencross, with all due respect hes an ahl player. with what hes done in columbus hes already matched what he had for career nhl games. good org depth player if needed. but who knows new locations often find guys in situations where they flourish

Deal close on Modin?

Blue Jackets president and general manager Doug MacLean and Don Meehan, agent for left winger Fredrik Modin, are scheduled to talk at 9:30 a.m. today (26 Feb 07).
The sides are said to be close to a three-year contract extension that likely would pay Modin $8 million to $9 million in total.
On Saturday, MacLean told Fox Sports Ohio that there was "an agreement in principle." Meehan, reached yesterday in Canada, said, "We?re on the right track."

there is no bigger FU than being given your outright release...so long Berard.

I am on the fence when it comes to the Modin extension. I can talk baseball contracts until the cows come home but I don't have a great basis for understanding what the league minimum is versus what a guy like Nash is making when it comes to hockey. Having said that, $8-$9 million sounds like a lot of money for a 30 HR 3B...little alone a guy in the NFL who at best is a guy who can give you 50-60 points a year.

JO, you mentioned Pushor...what's the story on him? My biggest flaw in fantasy baseball is mortgaging my future on prospects...so what can you tell us about some of the other prospects we should be paying attention to? Any guys that can come in and join guys like Svitov, Klesla and Zherdev and be a part of an Oakland A's-esque growth through the farm system (if only Doug Manlean were the Billy Beane of the NHL)? I'd love to get yours and 80's take on where this team is headed.

For everyone who isn't 100% certain, the Grand Rapids Griffins are a minor league affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings....
anything you know about keller?

ill tell you what i know about simon. hes from ohio, went to notre dame and pretty much sucks. :wink2: so im guessing that since keller is a bit younger its a similar thing. unless its moving things around for salary purposes for the wings...

Only that he wasn't going to be on the Red Wings unless virtually everyone else was injured

the blue jackets apparently will attempt to talk to bryan murray (coach of the sens), word is that sens will not allow cbj to speak to murray. his contract expires july 1.

jackets meet with howson (oilers agm) all day friday

cbj has asked to speak with les jackson (agm of the starts)

ps ill pull up his tsn scouting report
TSN : NHL-FLYERS - Canada's Sports Leader

ting Report

Assets Is a confident offensive player with excellent size and shooting ability. Can also pass the puck with aplomb, and is capable of playing both center and wing. Flaws Still needs some work in the defensive zone, and must play a more consistent brand of hockey in order to thrive at the NHL level. Career potential Top six forward.

has not lived up to top six potential yet. has two nhl seasons under his belt 38 and 28 point seasons. hes big 6 ft 2 205. i know hitch likes him, hes big and willing to play physical. does he fit? or is he just another middle of the road center that the cbj has a bunch of? time will tell, though i think he could fit very well in hitch's system. i would expect a team that is big, physical and hits like a ton of bricks as hitch molds the team...
