I watched a Wisky team do more to beat/outcoach themselves then TCU ever did.
Getting away from the strengths of your team. Poor play calling and a general lack of regard for the (painfully) obvious calls that we're in fact working. Shades of the 06' Florida game.
TCU wouldn't have been able to stop Ball or Clay all day. Hell, they didn't even slow Ball down - 132 yards, 22 carries at 6ypc. That's just getting it done. Good god, Clay was averaging 7ypc.
Why they didn't run through TCU, right over them, roughshod - grind them into nothing (much like they did to most of their competition) I blame solely on coaching & play calling.
All they had to do was pound, pound, Play fake and pound more. Tolzein should have thrown maybe 15 passes at most. A couple more shots on 1st down would have been intelligent too. At one point early on (when they got the big play to the fullback) you saw TCU crashing 9 into the box. Straight out committing to the run. Why? They knew early on they couldn't man on man beat the Badgers. Your average lineman was 50-60 lbs lighter then the Wisconsin offensive tackles.
The entire year Bucky had scores close at halftime, but kept pounding and making it ugly in the late 3rd/4th qtr. Commitment to the running game. More importantly the power run game. Not those stupid ass stretch plays that did next to nothing.
Why the lack of killer instinct? Why not feel the need to line up and say "I'm going to hurt you" ?
Brett flat out failed as a head coach today. I won't lie, it was quite amusing too. Regardless if it was a Big10 team in the Rose or not, I just can't stress how terrible this is going to be with a TCU victory now.
