Game Thread Rose Bowl, #8 tOSU vs #1 Oregon, Jan 1, 5:00 ET on ESPN

How was the experience?
Truly amazing. Since this was a special trip )and ubering was like $140 round trip), I used my national car rental program to upgrade to a Maserati Mercale. The dash has all sorts of insane performance tracking meters, but the most absurd was the built in drag racing menu, where you could track your best times going 0-60, 0-100, quarter mile times, etc. I'm wondering if they clear those out or if people are smart enough not to record those before returning the rental

Got to enjoy the rose bowl bash (and a dozen floats in the staging area).

Stayed in the media hotel, with a 20x12' TV screen in the hospitality room. Shuttle to the game.

Usually arrive a few hours before kickoff. I got there about 7.5 hrs early, to take in the views and atmosphere. Just stood atop the rose bowl stands for about 30+ minutes :)

The weather was spectacular. I ironically just spent about two weeks just east of the stadium for my main job (Horse Show Photography), and while the weather is really nice, it can be breezy and chilly. The day before the game there was a thick haze everywhere.

The weather on gameday was spectacular.

Sat in front of the Oregon band which was vivacious and showed more fight than their team. It's so nice to be on the road with almost no commercials so you can actually hear the bands. There's nowhere better to hear TBDBITL than on the road.

I think I had all 5 TDs right in my end. One of the DBs that lost to Egbuka went flying through the endzone 4 feet to my left.

The open Smith TD and long Henderson run came right at my corner. If you look for a neon green shirt on the replays (esp JJ's wide open catch), you'll see me.

After the game, the smiles were giant everywhere, including Ryan and Coach Mick hugging like giddy young kids.

They handed out extra roses to us in the media room to take home. I took a little bit of the confetti from the field and plan to make a little christmas ornament to remember that day.

Took about 8 years to download all of the files, despite downloading it many times throughout the game. Got everything sent to my publication by 8 pm, and was the 3rd to last person on the media shuttle. Then was up til about 3 am EST time with the adrenaline from that game.

I've been lucky to shoot Ohio State football for almost 18 years, but ever since Covid, my opportunities have been limited (mostly by my personal company taking off and being too busy). This was quite a way to shoot my first real game of 2024, and my first bowl game ever.
