Whoever mentioned that it is a question of musical tastes, I would agree with you. I know there are a lot of contributing factors to the sound that eventually became rock and roll, but I have a hard time believing some of the groups who are in now contributed ANYTHING to what that sound eventually came to be.

The fact that Grandmaster Flash and the Beastie Boys are in and Rush, KISS, and The Guess Who aren't simply proves that it's not really the "Rock & Roll" Hall of Fame.

This. The only Hall of Fame oversight that's more offensive to me than Rush not being in the R&R HOF is Randy Gradishar not being enshrined in Canton.

Rush and Kiss both suck. That's probably why they aren't in...

I can totally understand someone not liking Rush (I'm a pretty big fan but not a hardcore Rush head) as a matter of personal preference, but when a band has their longevity, commercial success, monstrously passionate "cult" following, and level of sheer musicianship (Peart is top 5 on every list of best rock drummers of all time I've ever seen, Lee is usually top 10 and always top 20 on best bass player lists, and Lifeson is pretty well regarded as well) you need to be in the HOF.

I'm perfectly fine with everything about Rush except Geddy Lee. I cannot stand his voice.

YYZ is an incredible song. Best Rush song by far.

This. Geddy Lee's screeching vocals aside, you would be hard pressed to name a band with better musical talent across the board at drums, bass and guitar. They are the latter day Who, and belong in the HOF. I just hope they don't do a super bowl halftime when they are in their 60's.

so, dug this thread up to ask a few questions:

any of you Ohio people been to the museum?
is it worth a trip up that way?
is there any other reason to ever visit Cleveland?

I mean as a music fan, I'd love to see the Rock & Roll hall of fame, but I honestly haven't found another single reason to ever make it up to Cleveland area.
is the Hall good enough on its own to justify a trip that far (roughly 18 hour drive for me)?
or is there something else that way worth seeing/doing?

I went for the first time this summer and had a blast. I spent the whole day there and could have spent another without getting bored. If you happen to be within 150 miles of Cleveland it's definitely worth the trip. I wouldn't travel all the way from Louisiana just to see it though.

edit: If you bring kids the Great Lakes Science Center is right next door, my kids love that place.

this is kinda what I figured.
makes planning any sort of family trip kinda rough. I'm not exactly close to anything worth visiting.
and because of the distance we have to go, i always try to find as many things as possible to do/see wherever we go.
that and I'm sorta limited on directions I can go as well.

If you do it in the summer, you can wrap it in with a trip to cedar point. That definitely is worth the trip from La. Plus they have world class corn dogs there, so that should be a big draw for an LSU fan.

Speaking of the HOF - they just announced the new set of inductees which includes Joan Baez.

Kudos to the NYT writer who paid her homage by describing her as "most familiar to younger listeners for her cameo at a Taylor Swift concert".

I may not agree with her politics, but the woman helped redefine folk music and has one of the purest voices of any genre.
