You take off the college and pro labels and just ask who was the better running back and Archie finishes third .... except to Buckeye fans....

Sure, except this thread is all about that college label...

Better pro RB: Bettis
Better college RB: Archie

Bettis only had 1912 career rush yards at ND.

And Watters had 1,814. That's 3,726 yards between them for their careers. Archie had 5,589 yards, which is 1,863 yards more than both of them put togther.

[sarcasm]Which just proves that Archie had better teammates and played in a better system for running backs[/sarcasm]

Figured I'd go ahead and save NDC the time it would take to type that.

Better teammates and/or system than Notre Dame? Inconceivable!

First, this is about college running backs. It has nothing to do with the performance of a running back in the pros. Mili, your persistence and restraint are impressive but, Triathalon preparation or not, you can't have a conversation with someone who is focused on trolling.

Second, who cares if our running backs or whomever get love in a fan poll over at Rivals? Is it surprising that people like NDC vote for their Notre Dame sweethearts?

Anybody who doesn't think that Archie was one of the greatest running backs of all time or that Ginn belongs on a list of all-time great returners, doesn't know anything about college football. Period.

First off, I never said that Archie was not a great running back! What I said was that there were many as good if not better.

So tell me why did Archie being the only 2 time Heisman winner have a much less than expected pro career if he was better than Watters and Bettis??

Perhaps his small stature didn't translate to the pros as well as college, but only a Domer would ever argue that Bettis or Watters was near the college back that Archie was. College and pro football are different games.

NDC,

There's a list of college backs who may have been better than Archie. Walker and Jackson, Dickerson, Allen..., but Watters and Bettis don't even crack the top twenty competitors. Put down the Irish crack pipe. Mili is right, Archie was a better college back than any ND running back, period. Pro careers are immaterial to this inquiry.

You never tire of dancing and spinning, do you ndc? I realize your arguments would be crushed if you actually acknowledged the rebuttals directly, but you're just bringing shame upon your own fanbase with these posts.

1) This is a COLLEGE football thread. The fact that it hurts your argument doesn't change the reality of it. Your endless attempts at spinning this to a pro argument are useless. They don't apply here. Do you understand this distinction?

I have no idea what this sentence means, but you'd be wise to heed his first suggestion.

Hey, NDChimp, re-read the thread title and tell where the word "professional" appears. Sorry, but Archie Griffin was better than any back ever--ever--at Notre Dame.
So did Bettis and Ricky both suddenly better in the pro's?? Dont think so...

2) Bettis & Watters were NOT better in college. Griffin had 3 times as many rushing yards, and two more heisman trophies. Ask anyone outside of south bend, heck ask 90% in the town, who was the better college running back.

3) When discussing 'greatest ever' or 'top-5 RB' lists, Archie's name is mentioned often for CFB rbs. Neither Bettis or Watters are mentioned for either CFB or NFL.
