All this tells us is that you're still a dipshit. How's this? Who led his team to three Super Bowl wins in four years? A QB who split starting time in college with mediocre stats. Why? Because he had a great coaching staff and an excellent OL. Griffin didn't have either during his time in the pros. So, performance at the pro level is not the lock of an indicator of talent as you claim. Archie Griffin was a better RB than Jerome "The Butt" Bettis...

First of all Archie's pro o-line had little to do with him getting beat out by someone that none of us has/had ever heard of. And if you are talking about Montana he had better than average stat's and split time as a Sophomore! By the way he also led ND to a National Championship.

As far as Bettis vs Archie..... outside of Ohio you would not get many people that would agree with you. Bettis was always a great back he just never played in a system like Archie was in.

If everybody outside of Ohio thinks that then why does Bettis never get brought up when discussing best college running backs while Archie is in the top 10 if not top 5 of every list you ever see?

Probably one of the most delusional comments I've ever seen on this board.

if bettis was so much better in college then why didnt he ever win a heisman? Isnt that given out to the best college athlete? i don't remember him ever recieving one, yet Archie won back to back.

Because he was a product of talent around him, according to our friend NDC. :roll1:

the real stars prove themselves
in the NFL.

thats actually one of the most misinformed things i have ever heard. there are a plethora of reasons why a great football player could wash out in the pros. wrong system. underutilized. came in as a backup for a current all pro and never got the playing time. didn't get along with the coaching staff. injuries. bad agent.

there was a time when eddie george had 0 shot of seeing the field at tailback for tOSU. had we picked up a transfer or had a freshman who could physically start from day one. there is a strong chance he never would have gotten a second chance. he wouldn't have won a heisman. wouldn't have gone on to a very good nfl career. he would have always been that kid who fumbled twice against illi. sometimes the line between the hall of the fame and a never was is really as thin as a single play.

talent and desire are but 1 part of the equation. when you start getting into so few spots on a roster to fill with so many people desperately trying to fill them. just plain dumb luck plays a far bigger role than you might think.

besides, if what you say is true a colossal failure such as archie shouldn't even be an option on this list correct?

True, but Archie lost his job because some no name beat him out and that reason alone I will always make me wonder.

Heisman's:
Archie: 2
Bettis and Ricky: 0

Anyone that thinks either of those two Notre Dame backs were better than Archie should lay off the green.

You take off the college and pro labels and just ask who was the better running back and Archie finishes third .... except to Buckeye fans....

And you failure to realize the truth baffles me. Ricky and Bettis were every bit as good in COLLEGE as they were in the pro's.
Archie was better in college than either "Ricky" or Bettis were...

Yet again, "pro" does not apply here...
