Rivalries and Conferences (Split from LSU v. OSU Offensive Personnel Thread)

The short-term memory mentality of college football is driving me crazy. I thinks its a product of arguments about not letting last year dictate anything about this year being overused and lots of new fans who don't know anything before 3 years ago. OSU has never, in my memory, had a reputation for playing an easy schedule before this year. I never remember it being a big deal in college football till 03, when auburn got left out,and it seems that the SEC decided to not shut-up about SOS until they had the entire country involved in this asinine argument.

Do I think that OSU playing some epic battles against Michigan is important for college football? YES.

Do I think it has any bearing on this year's results? NO.

Do I think the Big10 teams play the same level of competition as SEC teams? NO.

Do I think OSU is an elite program? YES.

Do I think OSU can beat LSU? YES.

Will OSU beat LSU this year? NO.

100% wrong yet again. Had tOSU lost to scUM, it would not be playing in the BCSCG and I wouldn't have to read your LLoyd Christmas-quality posts. You really suck at this.

Where's a Mili-Bomb when you need it?

I do not think the history between OSU/Michigan has any bearing on the results of that game. OSU has been the better team for at least the past 4 years and the same result happened. OSU won. It does not matter how many times Michigan has beat you in the past, this year OSU was the better team so they won.

slutiger....careful bashing Michigan

while I"ll gladly join in to say that MIchigan isn't the elite program right now that it has been....but that can change in a hurry. But for you to slam them because of their bowl performances the past couple of years smacks of delusion.

Why do you think that LSU (or any SEC team for that matter) would have done any better vs USC than Michigan did? Michigan lost by 14 points. That was one of USC's 4 closest games last year. Remember....every SEC team that USC has faced in the past 5 years has been brutalized...even in their own stadium

I watched both those games and they were not as close as the score indicated. USC was just a better team. I think Michigan just took the right step by hiring RR. GREAT COACH!! WV was crazy for letting him go.

Michigan has not been a great or elite football team for a while. Michigan was overrated last year when it faced OSU and overrated when it faced App State this year. BTW, App State is a great football team and that loss is not as bad as it seems on paper. Today, OSU is the class of the Big 10 and has been since 2002...

Do "Great Coaches" choke in big games on a regular basis? Time will tell if it was a good hire, but I don't think his brand of football (particularly his defense) is gonna fly in the Big-10. Also, WVU didn't "let him go", he bailed on them....again, pay attention.

Sure they do, JT chocked last year against Florida right? All coaches are human and no one is perfect... RR does not have a history of choking at any level...

Actually there were a few issue RR has with WV.

1. WV would not give him more money for his assistance
2. WV would not give RR sideline authority
3. WV wanted to charge high school football coachs to come to the games

I think it is safe to say the RR and WV did not see eye-to-eye on what it takes, $$$, to be an elite football program. I am pretty sure Michigan has and is willing to spend the money.

The spread option will work in the Big 10 once he gets the right type of players for that system. Curious thing will be to see if the Big 10 continues to play ZONE defense once RR gets that system installed.

I said on a regular basis...JT is 6-1 vs. his chief rival (God help me if you say scUM isn't relevent again...), and 4-2 in Bowl games (3-1 BCS).

Really? Have you been paying attention genius? Surely your memory goes back three weeks. I'd say that was an all-timer considering his team was a 28 point favorite with a spot in the BCSCG on the line. And you can spare me the injury excuse as they were getting worked prior to White going out.

Guys, I am sorry for Michigan to be a rival, they actually need to win one every once an a while. LSU/Auburn is a massive rivalry and newsflash, the entire nation is normally watching that game.

Yeah, and nobody tuned in for The Game (uh, that's what we call the Ohio State - Michigan game, in case you didn't know). I wonder what place LSU-Vanderbilt finished when they ran the internet poll on the greatest Amercian sports rivalry (not just college football, but all Amercian sports) and Ohio State - Michiga beat out the Yankees - Red Sox. I wonder if LSU - <insert SEC opponent> held down the next 11 spots...

So one loss means he choked but Tressel laying and egg against Florida does not qualify? I do not get it ... RR has a pretty decent bowl considering the team he inherited when he arrived at WV. I think they are 2-3 including beating UGA and Georgia Tech. He seems to have a pretty good winning record for WV.

Nope. JT choked Big-Time last January, but UF was a very good team.

He beat georgia Tech? Whoopee! UGA wasn't particularly good in 2005 either.

As for DickRod, how 'bout losing to a much less talented USF team in '06? Losing to Louisville in '06? USF was decent this year, but he still should have won that.

JT, doesn't lose to less talented teams often. Illinois being a possible exception this year.
