Ricky Williams (official thread)

This thread got stupid.

Let Ricky smoke his weed. It's not steroids. If he can dust an OLB to the corner for the first down, it's not from the weed. More like maybe the OLB should try smoking weed.

Lot's of people have never smoked weed. Some of those people still make judgments on it. I feel most of these people have no clue what they are talking about. I should not be included as one of these people. Thank the fucking Lord.

I agree, walking away from the game and dusting your teammates like that is shitty. Not a great teammate. Being stupid enough to fail test after test, clearly I've met smarter people than Ricky Williams.

When Coca cola was first produced it contained cocaine and was actually first sold as a pain reliever. Only after the truth came out was it banned. The name Coca pertained to the drug.

Yes. Exactly why he is in the wrong here IMO. but hope the browns sign him  him and jamal would make a great 1-2 punch, and jamal has the chronic hook up in cleveland

This isn't Band of Brothers. It's a band of multi-millionaire business men. Williams did not sign a contract with his team mates nor did they sign one with him. He signed with the management of the Miami Dolphins Inc. Anyone who thinks the Dolphins wouldn't break a contract with anybody on that team, any coach, even the city of Miami and "their fans" hasn't been paying attention. Chicago Cardinals, St. Louis Cardinals, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Rams, LA Rams, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Colts, Indianapolis Colts, Robert Irsay, Art Modell and Al Davis... name one who wouldn't sell out a running back or an entire city if he thought it could give him a business leg up and if you're foolish enough as a fan to buy into the idea that any NFL team is "your" team you need to lay off the weed yourself.

It's business and I wish I had the talent to demand Ricky Williams money, but I don't blame him one iota for wanting to go sit on a beach and get stoned. I don't praise him for that decision. I don't think it's particullarly smart. I don't think he fully understands the long term consequences, but, hey, if that's what you want to do, who are we to tell you 'no'?

And I agree whole-heartedly.

very true but that entitled team is together and they are all striving for the same goal. he sells out his team, fans, franchise by simply leaving for the some purpose of getting high.

I just don't agree. These are not guys racing to beat the Germans to the A bomb. They are not a surgical team in the middle of a heart transplant. They're not even a bunch of frat guys planning the next kegger or trying to get off of double secret probation.

These are business guys playing a game, A GAME.

I envy them for their ability to do that, just as I envy the guy who can make a living writing, or painting, or singing.

BUT there are few players on the Dolphins who wouldn't break their contract if a) they could b) they could get more money somewhere else, c) played with a team they wanted to play with for whatever reasons.

And there isn't a GM who wouldn't trade a player or cut him if it made economic sense to him, there isn't an owner who's bound to the heart of the city his team plays in.

Santa Claus does not run the NFL.

Suppose that a company offered you a contract with a hefty raise in pay and benefits and security, but only on the basis that you immediately broke your contract with your current employer. No two weeks notice... not even bothering to clean out your desk and erase the porn an BP postings from your computer. Most workers would not have even one second of concern for where this left their fellow workers.

I agree that Williams sold out. He sold out himself. If he could have stayed straight and carried out the season to the very lower limits of his ability and desire, he could have smoked more and better dope at more and better places for a long time. But that he owed his teammates, or the Dolphins (whom I hate anyway) a damn thing beyond whatever his contract says and whatever a judge says his contract means, is simply not valid.

They are ALL in a business and no one can force you to want to be a part of it no matter how much it benefits you.

I still say it's the NFL's fault.. they tricked him...

like this question:

What is this:
a. The mother of all doobies
b. The Hindenberg
c. An oval spaceship
d. A white football

this was a trick.. they knew after choice 'A' they threw off his concentration... and you can barely see the threads so 'D' didn't look right either.. they just wanted him to fail.. it was a damn conspiracy

compared to college football i hate the NFL but it in no way deters from the idea that they are playing a team sport still. they all are very aware of how the business works so if one of their players like stokely from indy is lost it hurts but they are fully aware that it is part of the business and they understand that. a lot of owners are assholes but not all. they are not the ones playing the game though. the 22 guys that go out there on the field on that given day are the team and some of them might have differences and carry on because they are obligated to but most of them are a very tight bunch of guys. i mean hell they all pretty much know each other, work together nonstop, watch film together, hang out together, and in some cases get arrested together. in that sense they are no different than any level of football. like any professional sport i feel MOST of the time the NFL lacks the passion of college football but it is still there when a game is on the line or the playoffs are in play.

This isn't the point. The point is that Ricky got caught breaking a rule of the NFL so he should pay the penalty for doing the doobie. However a ban make be over doing it so lets just make him spend a night with Rosie Odonell.
Yes I know I misspelled it. It's early in the morning and I am hungover.
