ESPN has a video of Sypher being interviewed. She apparently claims that Pitino threatened her life:

"Before I left, I said, he said 'tell them to take care of everything'. And I said 'This is not what I want.' and he said, and he looked at me, straight in the eyes, and he said 'You do not have a choice on this matter. Your boys will be in concrete, and your family, and you'."

The circumstances of her claimed conversation were unclear. It's possible she's saying that occurred when he refused to pay her the blackmail money she wanted.

The video was released before Pitino attacked the media yesterday.

But as he said in his press conference yesterday, recruiting "has not been hurt one bit. We will still bring in top ten players."

Other things released by police yesterday included this message left on Sypher's answering machine, in Pitino's voice:

“It’s not something I can decide on,” he says on the message. “I think the best thing in all scenarios is to go through with it. But, that has to be your call because (inaudible) … I’m a high profile person … I can’t really give you any advice on this…”

He's obviously talking about the potential termination of her pregnancy. And after saying that the best thing is to go through with it, he says he can't really give any advice.

In my opinion, regardless of whether or not her claimed converation with Pitino is fabricated, he's a scumbag and a slimeball, and should resign. But perhaps folks in Louisville will feel that he wins enough basketball games where that won't be necessary.

Pitino continues to make an ass of himself.

But I don't understand is why you keep fostering this behavior on a day where Ted Kennedy died, we broke in the news here in Louisville we broke in with Karen Sypher's audio and the tapes and detectives. That's pretty sad commentary on us. We need to get on with the important things in life like the economy and really some crucial things in life like basketball.

This dumbass keeps "fostering this behavior" every time he calls a press conference to whine about it. This guy is going to mold my 18 year old son for the future? I don't think so. :shake:

Sources: Pitino interested in Nets job

Sources close to Rick Pitino said that the Louisville coach has reached out to Nets brass in recent days, making himself a candidate for the job now held by GM and interim coach Kiki Vandeweghe, and due to open after their woeful season is completed in April. According to sources, Pitino had intermediaries recently contact Nets president Rod Thorn on his behalf. Thorn himself is in the final year of a contract, and is looking to get a new deal from incoming owner Mikhail Prokhorov. New York Daily News

The first comment?

Julius Erving is NOT walking through that door ...

Ky. woman guilty of extortion in coach Pitino case

LOUISVILLE, Ky. ? A Kentucky woman was convicted Thursday of demanding millions of dollars from Rick Pitino to keep secret their one-night stand in a restaurant, then claiming the Louisville basketball coach raped her after he reported the extortion.

Karen Cunagin Sypher, 50, of Louisville, was found guilty of three counts of extortion, two counts of lying to the FBI and one count of retaliating against a witness. She stared at the ceiling as the verdict was read, while one of her sons wept openly.

The case involved a 2003 sexual encounter between Pitino and Sypher, a former model at car shows, at a table inside an Italian restaurant closed for the night. Pitino testified she came on to him and the sex was consensual. After she was charged, Sypher told police it was rape but Pitino was never charged.

Last year, Pitino received three threatening phone calls and two letters demanding cash and gifts for Sypher to keep the tryst secret. One of the letters showed to the jury was a handwritten note from Sypher that asked for cars, tuition for her children and her mortgage to be paid off.

...

Pitino said the sex lasted "15 seconds" and was "unfortunate."

Although Sypher never testified, jurors heard her version of events when prosecutors played a never-broadcast TV interview where she claimed Pitino raped her.

"All he said was shut up, shut up and be quiet," she said on the tape.
Although some witnesses described Sypher as persistent and flirty that night, no one else testified to witnessing the sex.
Tim Sypher, a longtime Pitino aide and now Karen Sypher's ex-husband, testified he arranged for an abortion and paid for it with $3,000 Pitino had given Karen Sypher. He testified that the two met when Pitino asked him for help after she said she was pregnant.

Cont'd ...

Rick Pitino in running for unusual double

Rick Pitino has the "horses." In Russ Smith, Chane Behanan, Peyton Siva and Gorgui Dieng, he has the type of strong, athletic players that could take his Louisville Cardinals all the way to an NCAA championship.
And he has a horse, a real horse. Goldencents is bigger than Dieng, faster than Siva, completely incapable of making a jump shot but quite possibly good enough to win the Kentucky Derby.
.
.
.
With a big paycheck coming in each week, Pitino built a small stable that concentrates on quality horses. He finished fourth in the 1998 Kentucky Derby with Halory Hunter and was seventh in the 2001 Derby with A P Valentine. He's twice won Belmont Park's Champagne Stakes, among the most prestigious races in the country for 2-year-olds.
"I have had about as much luck in the horse business as any small stable can have," he said. "Two Derby starters, two Champagne winners, and all with a stable of about six."
Goldencents, No. 9 in the initial ESPN.com Top 10 poll and winner of the Delta Jackpot and Sham Stakes, was bought for $62,000 last year at an auction of 2-year-olds. That's a modest price, and there is nothing special about his breeding, but trainer Doug O'Neill soon figured out that he had a top prospect on his hands. Pitino wasn't in on the horse at the start, but stumbled upon him while visiting O'Neill's stable in California last summer.
"I fell into Goldencents by luck," he said. "I was out there looking at my horses with Doug O'Neill and saw Goldencents work out against my horses. I saw firsthand that he was a really good horse. I wished them luck with the horse and Doug said, 'Do you want to get in on this one?' I asked how much and he said, 'We bought him for $62,000, we'll value him now at $100,000 and he's probably worth a lot more than that, but you're a good guy and we think you'd be a good partner.' I wrote him a check on the spot."

The real Tattoo U....

ncb_e_pitino11_300.jpg

Rick Pitino shows off his new (and only) tattoo. At midseason he told his players that if they won the national championship, he'd further acknowledge it with some ink.

On Feb. 9, after a demoralizing loss to Notre Dame that required five overtimes to settle, Pitino told his Cardinals that they'd win out, win the Big East title and get to the Final Four.

"I then told them they have to stop with all these tattoos," Pitino said.

That's when the players fired back at Pitino. If the Cardinals could win the national title, would the coach get his own tattoo?

ncb_RP_tattoo_110.jpg

So did Pitino pay for the tattoo?

Said Potts: "I was running a free special for any Hall of Fame coaches who won an NCAA championship in the last 30 days."

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebas...61/rick-pitino-calls-gordon-gee-a-pompous-ass

This is the first time we've seen Rick Pitino unhappy since his team won the national championship two months ago. It wasn't the reality of owning up to a bet and getting a tattoo or even seeing one of his horses run poorly at the Kentucky Derby that prompted public unrest.

No, it was Ohio State president Gordon Gee who rankled Pitino enough that the Louisville coach publicly called Gee a "pompous ass" on radio late last week. Gee has since apologized for remarks he made back in December (only recently publicized) that were framed as jokes but still cut deep at Catholics, Louisville, Kentucky, new Arkansas football coach Bret Bielema and the SEC as a whole.
