Rick Pitino (HC St. John's)

That statement by Pitino is just stupid. To say "at any level" that a high school senior is the best shooter ever is just ignorant Pitino at his best:!

Pitino loves hyperbole to the extreme. I'm trying to dig around for some of his all time best ridiculous statements.

To refer to Chris Mullin by name

I wonder if Pitino has seen Brad Redford, the freshman Xavier guard? Down on Victory Parkway they are comparing his touch to JJ Reddick-I hope for the poor kid's sake that is the only thing they compare him to Reddick about.....

on a one game basis, I think I take Rick Pitino as my head coach. The guy just GETS IT. He knows how to press, or drop back into a zone. Or he can trap at half-court or play a half court man defense. And they're all extremely effective.

He recruits well. He puts out quality assistants. And he is generally pretty humble in the media.

I'd say it is a tough call between him and Coach K, but if I were starting a program tomorrow, I think I'm taking Pitino with the first pick.

I agree Pitino has been a winner at the college level and has typically had very good teams...he is doing one heck of a job tapping the talent in the Indianapolis area....add to that he is a lot better looking than Coach K....

Report: Rick Pitino interested in coaching Sacramento Kings - ESPN

Louisville coach Rick Pitino is a candidate for the Sacramento Kings job, Yahoo! Sports reported.
Pitino, Yahoo! reported, has let Kings' ownership know he is interested in a return to the NBA. One league official said the Maloof family was "intrigued."
Kings co-owner Gavin Maloof told Yahoo! the Kings haven't spoken with Pitino.
"I think he's a great coach and he's done an unbelievable job at Louisville," Maloof told Yahoo! Sports. "But we haven't talked to him."

I understand the intrigue of coaching at the professional level, but at some point dont you need to look at your current position and think its a great situation to be in?

He already had one shot in the NBA and I don't think that was a very successful one. Perhaps he should stay at Louisville but if you would leave that might free up some big-time 2011 recruits for Ohio State to go after:).

I guess he could give the NBA another try and if it doesn't work out he could go back to high school coaching.

Pitino told police he had sex with accuser

By Andrew Wolfson
The Courier-Journal

University of Louisville men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino told police that he had consensual sex with Karen Cunagin Sypher at a Louisville restaurant where he’d been drinking on Aug. 1, 2003.

He also told police that he later gave Sypher $3,000 to have an abortion, according to Louisville Metro Police reports The Courier-Journal obtained under the Kentucky Open Records Act.

But Pitino denied Sypher’s allegations that he raped her at Porcini, after the restaurant closed, and again a few weeks later at a different location, police records show. And prosecutors who have reviewed Sypher’s claims say Pitino won’t be charged.

Sypher has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of conspiring to extort money from Pitino in exchange for her silence about the alleged crimes, and with lying to the FBI. She has pleaded not guilty.
